Women's Basketball: Upcoming opponents for Jan 28 - Jan 31

The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team return home for two games this week. FAU will play the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on Wednesday, January 28 at 7 p.m. at the FAU Arena, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. FAU follows that game with a matchup against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, January 31 at 5 p.m.

FAU won its fourth consecutive game with a 54-44 defensive gem over Arkansas State University on January 25. Despite only shooting 29 percent from the field (17-58), the Owls were able to get consistent scoring from Carla Stubbs (Miami/Jackson High School) who led the Owls with 14 points. Jessica Knurick (Commerce, Michigan/Walled Lake Northern High School) added 11 points as the Owls out rebounded the Red Wolves 41-33.

UALR is off to their best start in school history, coming into Wednesday’s contest at 16-4, 8-1 in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). The Trojans defeated the University of South Alabama and Troy University last week. UALR is led by forward Chastity Reed, who leads the Trojans at just over 17 points per game. Reed averaged 24 points per contest in the two wins this past week. Guard Anshel Cooper shoots over 50 percent from the field and averages 15 points per game and Kim Sitzmann is the primary three-point weapon, hitting 33 percent of her shots from beyond the arc and averaging 11 points per game.

ULL is still looking for their first SBC win of the season, coming into the week at 0-8 in the conference and 3-16 overall. The Ragin’ Cajuns lost their fifth consecutive game on January 24, dropping a 66-52 decision to South Alabama. ULL is led by Alexis Green, who leads the team in scoring with 14.2 points and six rebounds per game.
