Brentz's Ninth Inning Home Run Hands Owls Second Game Loss

FAU lost a heartbreaker tonight at the hands of Bryce Brentz - literally.  But this time it was on the other side of the ball, as he sailed one over the wall in the bottom of the ninth to give the Blue Raiders thier second win of the three game series.

Brentz’ game-winning homer tonight came after he tossed a complete-game to earn the victory on the mound for MTSU in game one last night.

The Blue Raiders took a 1-0 lead with one out in the fifth when Blake McDade and Tyler Burnett hit back-to-back doubles.

William Block belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth and Travis Ozga followed with a drive off the facade high above the fence in left field, giving the Owls a 3-1 lead.

The Owls lead 4-2 in the eighth.  But MTSU's Zach Dean's two-out pinch-hit double in the eighth left the Blue Raiders only down by one; prompting Head Coach McCormack to insert Alex Pepe from the bullpen.  He did his job and FAU went into the top half of the ninth with the lead.

But Adams, who replaced Pepe, hit MTSU's bottom of the ninth lead-off batter in Drew Robertson.  He faced Brentz next, who hit the game winning home run.

Former head Coach Kevin Cooney was in attendance tonight, and watched the game from the familiar vantage of the visiting Owl's dugout.

FAU will look to come away with a win tommorow to avoid the clean sweep.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00PM EST.
