UPDATED: First Day of Practice for the Owls...

Post

I'll chronicle a little commentary here and there this afternoon from the Oxley…along with some pics and Hopefully a good vid or two as well…although dont expect too much today since there are no pads being used…

First off is this:

Been a while since coming to FAU on Glades during the peak of the school day; as i normally take 20th in…but the parking pass was needed to keep those pesky golf carters with the expensive "writing pads" away from the Honda…….

45 cars deep to turn in on the east side, and three lights later…finally arrived…10 minutes to drive 2 miles (if that)…

The Ox is buzzing with media today and most of the staff apperantly had gotten used to their mailboxes and copy room being empty for a spell…

Welcome back…

Caught sight of Jason Harmon on the way in sporting a nice pair of white shorts and a bright yellow shirt…he is looking his dapper self, and quite happy to be heading back on to the field…

Here's Nest friend Ted Hutton getting set for the afternoon with a NICE new, well company provided, camera…go Ted!

Heading outside now…be back in a bit with some more…

First stop QBs…….

Rusty, left, is quite fond of his practice jersey and just will not accept a new one…"Do you want a new one?"  Answer: "No".

Hey, whatever keeps him throwing that speed rocket!

Van Kamp, right, will be getting the majority of the work this spring to help catch him up on his reads and the overall speed of the game…can be quite a difference between the running of a practice squad and game time team…

Next stop D-Line…where new Owl Coach Rod Payne (far right) is busy instructing his new players…he appears initially to be a hands on guy…i didn't count how many times he said "get the elbows in under the chest", but it must have been at least 5 in less than a minute…these guys better get that right, or someone will be running more than just drills…

We'll be doing more with Coach Payne one on one later in the week…

Next to last stop…Wide receivers…

Quite an impressive number of guys will be hashin' it out this spring to impress and jockey for playing time…

Not out there, but wish he was:  Darian Williams.

Still in rehab for his knee surgery…he says things are going quite well and should return in August…

Amongst his other duties as new OC, Coach Jackson was busy with some one on one himself…

Below, he is giving Amos Wood, JR some evaluation and instruction…

Last stop in on the practice field…

Ah yes, no round about the practice field would be complete without a check-in visit with Mike - FAU's "Number 1 Fan".

Here is Mike with his New Orleans Bowl Championship Ring that was presented to him by FAU Athleics…

That's some serious bling Mike!

Seconded.

Amos Wood is now #80, as Lester Jean has become #3. Wood had some great catches today.  Blanchard was not going down without a fight. Rolle was pretty good as well. CBs/safties went through some recieving drills and dropped balls like crazy, though Austin Jensen did a good job.

Moving on to the fullbacks.......

Willie Rose is first on the depth chart, and was first in line in the drills as well.......

Although he shows great technique, Schnelley still had a few words of "instruction" for him:

Alfred Morris sits just behind Rose...he has received some praise from the Coaches for his hard nose blocking - a mainstay ability in FAU's pro style offense...

Guy looks pretty impressive in this drill showing his speed, and obviously picking up on Howard's words to Rose:
