Owls Nipped by FIU 4-3
Kerri Croney went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, but the Lady Owls came up short in its first meeting with rival FIU, 4-3 in eight innings on Wednesday night.
After reaching on a hit by pitch, Croney moved to second on a Rose Gressley base hit and advanced to third on a Becky Brandies sacrifice bunt. Christine Houghtaling drove Croney in on a single to center to give FAU a 1-0 lead.
Croney doubled in Brittany Walker in the bottom of third to help the Owls regain the lead, 2-1. The Golden Panthers led 3-2 in the bottom of sixth when Croney scored on an RBI single by Brandies to tie the game.
FIU pitcher Jennifer Gniadek hit a solo homerun to right in the top of the eighth to retake the lead. Gniadek retired the Owls in order in the bottom of the eighth to end the game. The Owls continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday when they host Louisiana-Lafayette in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 5 p.m.
