No matter what happens the whole damn country has heard about FIU baskeball now. Not sure if it will be worth it in the long run or not. Only time will tell.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Yep…but not only has FIU's name been out there for the last 3 days, but so has the Sun Belt, and FAU with Jarvis's hire, along with ASU's Brad as coach.  Some people might criticize and/or try to diminish the importance of this hire…and the national splash it has made…but the fact remains that in a not so indirect way, the whole conference has benefitted from unheard of exposure in the history of the SBC…..

Exposure is one thing for the very short term, but I just hope the exposure doesn't get any uglier.  FAU hires have NEVER evoked this type of negative emotion and exposure.

Here is the front page of the Sun-Sentinel's sports section this morning…

Why are you saying that?….A clown?….What do you base that on?  his hires?  Turtle Thomas?  Mario Cristobal?… or on what some reporters that have never liked FIU nor step foot on campus EVER, now feel compelled to write some garbage in order to fill their own egos and justify the poor work they, themselves, might be doing?  Please…

There might be some other reasons….I've heard he is not necessarily an easy guy to work for.  But he wants results…..

It's not always a good thing to put your name out there.

The conference only really benefits from positive associations.

If you have numerous media sources saying this was a bad hire – whether they like FIU or have ever stepped on campus is irrelevent because their words reach people who don't care about that – then you have created a negative association.

Maybe…or maybe not.  But the SBC has gotten at least some good pub out of this…..even FAU and Mike Jarvis have gotten extra national ink and ESPN mentions on several ocassions…But, yeah…the bad that has come out of it is something that was bound to happen…

FIU has gotten, up to this afternoon, 1,100 calls regarding Basketball, and possiblities of gotten season tickets…FIU ticket office was swarmed with the phone ringing off the hook…Now, it doesn't mean that many tickets will be bought…but hey…it's still 1,100 more calls than what FIU ticket office was getting for basketball just 3 days ago….

It might have negative associations…but, according to these numbers, the negative associations haven't been negative enough to preclude all the interest already, reportedly, exhibited…

I truly appreciate the support you show for your University - AWESOME!  And mean that!

Would Hope that anyone who is a fan of FAU would stick up for their own in the same manner if push came to shove…BUT:

To answer your question…couple of things really…but, mainly this:

"FIU athletic director Pete Garcia was reprimanded by President Modesto Maidique after a university investigation revealed allegations of 'unprofessional management and poor leadership style, misuse of state resources [and] hostile work environment'.''

Consider the source of the above…this is coming from "hometown" reporter Pete Pelegrin at the Miami Herald.

Now, just where does he stand with regards to "now feel compelled to write some garbage in order to fill their own egos and justify the poor work they, themselves, might be doing?"

Besides, he is only reporting fact in this case…not "opinion"?

Ps…all in good fun my friend (although sure you know that ;)).  But, "reporter" or not, there is some truth and life lessons to be had in all of this…….
