Owls Edge Closer Towards A Program First With 19-12 Loss To UNO

Adam Morrison helped the Owls to an early 7-0 lead

As if seemingly needing to win seven of nine to close the Sun Belt Conference schedule out just to secure a spot in the tournament was not enough pressure, things took an unexpected turn tonight when the underdog New Orleans Privateers put a serious whooping on FAU in game one of a crucial series 19-12.  This despite UNO committing four errors.

All looked well early on, as the Owls jumped out to a comfortable lead and were on top 7-0 heading into the top of the fourth.  But that is when things went wrong - badly.

The Privateers scored 9 runs in their offensive half of the inning.

Coach McCormack would go to the pen time and time again, hoping to find someone who could stop the bleeding.  He even tapped second baseman William Block in the ninth to take to the hill.

All for naught.

FAU answered UNO's first major blow with a scattering offensive, scoring two runs throughout the 4th and 6th innings.  But they could not stop the hot bats of the Privateers, as UNO would post another eight runs in the top of the seventh inning, and two in the ninth.

The Owls now find themselves in a very precarious sitiuation - embarking on what could be program history that is not desired.  FAU has never missed a conference tournament (dating all the way back to the yester-years of the TAAC) but are on the foothills of making program history if they do not win at least 7 games of the remaining schedule.  A "mountain to climb" lies ahead to say the least.

Game two of the series will be tommorow at 4:00PM EST at FAU Stadium.

Hopefully, they bring their hiking boots with them.
