The 2009 Major League Baseball draft starts tonight at 6:00PM EST.  MLB.com has launched a new level of coverage for the event this year, and it will be broadcast on the MLB Network as well.

FAU, who has had at least three players drafted in each of the last six seasons, has three players that could get some looks in late rounds (40+) tommorow:

He's not a current FAU player, but Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg was taken in the 16th round (478 overall) by the Braves. He had transferred to Nova Southeastern.

President of the No Homers Club. Keepin' it real since 2001.

A little more on "RSF":

"Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg (16), 1B - A big first baseman for Nova Southeastern University in Florida, RSF (as he will now be called, because typing his name is insanely difficult) hit .393 with 15 HR and 67 RBI, and was named to the All-Sunshine State Conference Baseball First Team. He is definitely a kid with good power, and an interesting pick."

Chris Schmitt, Brandon Kloess Ink Free Agent Contracts

Florida Atlantic University baseball alumni Chris Schmitt and Brandon Kloess have signed Major League Baseball free agent contracts, bringing the total number of Owls currently playing with MLB affiliates to 18.

Schmitt, a right-handed pitcher who led FAU in wins last season, came to terms with the Baltimore Orioles and has been assigned to its Gulf Coast League affiliate. A graduate of Atlantic High School in Delray Beach, Schmitt played two seasons at FAU making 29 relief appearances as a senior in 2009, which  ranks among FAU's all-time single-season records.

Kloess, who pitched with an independent team last summer, agreed to a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and is currently with its Rookie League club in Great Falls , Montana . Originally from Montgomery , Alabama , Kloess played for FAU from 2004-08, with his best season coming as a sophomore in 2005 where he went 8-2 with 48 strikeouts in 58-plus innings.
