Middle Tennessee senior wide receiver Michael Cannon is likely calling it a career after suffering a torn ACL during fall camp Monday.
This is the second consecutive season Cannon has torn the ligament in his right knee. Last year, he injured it against Maryland and missed the final eight games of the season.
Coach Rick Stocksill said the team was counting on Cannon to contribute this season.
"I am disappointed on two fronts," said Stockstill. "Personally, I am sorry for Michael because he worked so hard to come back for his senior year then on the first day of practice he hurts the same knee. As for the team, we will miss his leadership and ability as a receiver. We were counting on a big year from Michael."
Cannon, who can apply for a medical redshirt, has been riddled with injuries his entire career. As a freshman in 2005, he dropped a weight on his foot and missed most of the season.
He is on track to graduate.
Cannon has returned to his home in Memphis where he will stay until his surgery on Aug. 27.
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!
