DEPTH CHART UPDATE:

"The regular season’s first depth chart confirms that red-shirt freshman Antonio Rodriguez has beaten out Austen Jensen at strong safety. Jensen, a junior, was first on the depth chart coming out of spring practice."

Is this a smart decision??? Starting the new kid on the block versus an experienced player…. and on the defensive
side of the ball, where we are pretty weak to begin with.

Jensen in 2008:
Played in every game both on defense and special teams…possibly the biggest play of his sophomore season and for the entire team came on an-onside kick that Ted Czepiga forced FIU to bobble and Austin Jensen recovered the ball which set up an FAU score and eventual 57-50 overtime victory sending FAU to the Motor City Bowl…also credited with a blocked extra point attempt versus North Texas which Darrien Thomas picked up and returned for a score…defensively, recorded 24 tackles on the year, including 15 solo…season high was seven tackles versus Central Michigan in the Motor City Bowl…prior to that he recorded four tackles versus Troy, 3 solo, and four versus North Texas…recorded a tackle in nine of the 13 games played.

Going with the best players is always the smart decision.  If the coaches thought that the experienced guy was better, I'm sure he's be starting.

Re: Safety Precautions

I think he is doing this to give the kid some experience in some big games we don't necessarily need to win… this way when we come to our conference games he would already have a taste of playing some tough opponents… just my 2 cents…

Re: Safety Precautions

Just noticed Grant is ahead of Harmon on the depth chart as well. Interesting.

You have to believe that the coaching staff that has been there everyday knows better than we do who should and shouldn't start.  I look at it this way, the kid must be really really good to have won that position over Jensen.

GO OWLS!

"There is still a battle there" doesn't sound like coach H is too sure of his decision. I think he just likes Rodriguez's speed.
