FAU Athletics Adds Dale Long to Media Relations Staff
“I am excited to gain further experience in athletic media relations at Florida Atlantic University , while also helping to enhance the promotion of the Owls outstanding student-athletes,” said Long. “This position provides a great opportunity, as Florida Atlantic hosts the Sun Belt Conference women’s soccer tournament, and major competitions in golf, swimming and tennis through the spring.”
Long’s responsibilities in the department will include promoting teams and student-athletes in women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, swimming and tennis. The Terre Haute , Indiana native also will assist in football game day operations while utilizing his strong broadcasting skills to provide colorful commentary for women’s basketball and baseball.
Long also will assist the department when FAU plays host to the Sun Belt Conference’s (SBC) women’s soccer championship tournament from Wednesday, November 4 to Friday, November 6. This will be the first time that the university has hosted a SBC post-season championship event.
Long, a 2008 radio-television-film graduate of Indiana State University , spent this summer as director of media relations and broadcaster for the Edenton Steamers, a collegiate-level baseball team in the North Carolina-based Coastal Plain League. Long also has gained valuable experience as a broadcaster and sports information assistant at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Indiana for three years, covering more than 70 football, men’s and women’s basketball, and baseball games each year. He also served as broadcaster for ISU’s women’s basketball for one season, as well as broadcasted games for the Sycamores’ football, men’s basketball and baseball teams while serving as sports director of the college’s radio station, WISU-FM.
Long also gained experience in operations and media relations at the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships in 2007 and 2009; NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championships in 2002 and 2003, and NCAA Division III Mideast Baseball Regional Tournaments in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
During the summer of 2008, Long shared play-by-play announcing responsibilities for the Mat-Su Miners of the collegiate Alaska Baseball League in Palmer, Alaska. He also recorded team statistics and handled some of their media relations responsibilities.
