FAU Golf Program to Play at Fountains Country Club for the 2009-10 Season

The Florida Atlantic University golf program will now call the Fountains Country Club home for the 2009-10 athletic season. The men’s and women’s golf teams will use the Club in Lake Worth , Fla. to host dual meets and practices.

“We’re really thrilled that finally the FAU golf team has a home,” said Angelo Sands, men’s golf head coach.  “We also really appreciate the Fountains community in extending a warm welcome to us.”

The Owls’ new course is a private member-owned club that features three championship 18-hole golf courses, designed by world famous golf architects Bob Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin.

Women’s golf team head coach Joan Joyce also is excited to have the variety of courses in which to play.

“They have three golf courses so it will be nice to spread it out. Even if the country club has other activities scheduled, it still allows us an opportunity to play,” said Joyce.  “We like being there and they enjoy having us there.”

The Fountains Country Club also hosts many charity tournaments, including events for Special Olympics, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Hospice and UJA.

The FAU golf program would like to thank other area golf courses for helping the teams throughout the years such as Boca Polo Country Club, Boca Grove Country Club, Delaire Country Club, Boca Muni Golf Course, Deer Creek Golf Course, Cypress Creek Golf Course, Abocoa Golf Course and Southwinds Golf Course.

The Owls’ men’s golf team will be hosting a Spring Break Tournament at Gleneagles from March 26-28.  This is the second year for the event with 14 teams participating last season.
