Women's Soccer: Ole' Miss Too Much for FAU
The loss is the first for the Owls in three matches and closes out the non-conference portion of the season. Mississippi entered the match ranked seventh in the South Region, according to the National Collegiate Soccer Association of America national poll.
The Rebels grabbed the early advantage in the 8th minute as Hannah Weatherly scored on a penalty kick after a foul occurred in the attacking box. She would score her second goal of the match in the 47th minute that gave Ole Miss a 3-0 advantage.
Later in the opening half Mississippi would provide an insurance goal with Mary Bailey Wickham finding the net in the 30th minute with a shot in the lower right corner from the top left corner of the box.
Mississippi capped the scoring with Kelsey’s Breathitt’s fourth goal on the season in the 60th minute.
Janelle Blake, Laura Hyvonen and Ashley Mannarino each recorded one shot for Florida Atlantic.
FAU stands 2-5-2 on the season and begins Sun Belt Conference action on Friday, Sept. 25 at Western Kentucky University . Mississippi improves to 6-2 on the year.
