Women's Soccer: UALR Downs Owls 2-0

he Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team put its postseason hopes in jeopardy, dropping a 2-0 decision to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock on Sunday at the FAU Soccer Stadium.

The victory clinched a spot for the Trojans in the eight-team Sun Belt Conference’s championship tournament, being hosted by FAU on Nov. 4-7 in Boca Raton , Fla.

FAU heads into the regular-season finale with a 5-11-3 overall record and 3-6-1 in conference play.  Meanwhile, UALR improved to 4-5-1 in Sun Belt action and is 7-9-1 overall.

The visiting Trojans grabbed the momentum in the 19th minute when Christina Veasley scored her 11th goal of the season.  The goal came during an odd-player rush and was set up by Kamiya Merrick’s pass to the center of the attacking box.

UALR added an insurance goal with 10 minutes left as a header by Merrick found the top left corner of the net.

The Trojans outshot the Owls by a slim 14-13 margin.  FAU junior midfielder Laura Hyvonen led the team with three shots in the match.  Sonia Richards, Meghan Brown and Anhnhi Tran also added shots for the hosts.
