Men's Soccer: Owls on Six Game Skid; Drop 3-1 Decision NIU

The Florida Atlantic men’s soccer team fell to Northern Illinois 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at FAU Soccer Stadium.  The loss drops the Owls to four games under .500 for the first time this season as FAU is winless in their last six matches.

Northern Illinois (8-6-1) took a commanding lead early in the game with three first half goals.  The first goal came in the 7th minute when Ben Thomas beat FAU goalkeeper Jeremy Crumpton to put the Huskies on top 1-0.  NIU extended the lead to 2-0 in the 35th minute when Juan Hoyos beat Crumpton for the goal.  The first half scoring was capped off in the 42nd minute when Josh Karsten headed in a goal off a set piece from Engebreth Farden to make the score 3-0.  Farden tallied two assists in the game for NIU.

The Owls (4-8-2, 0-4-0) were led on offense by sophomore forward Darnell King who tallied his fourth goal of the season in the second half.  King leads the Owls with 11 points this season.

Crumpton started in net for FAU and made two saves in the loss.  Ciro Martinez came into the game in the second half and also made two saves.  Joradn Godsey started in net for NIU and made two saves in the victory.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday night when they wrap up their home schedule against Buffalo.  There will be a brief ceremony prior to the start of the game to honor the seniors playing in their final home game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
