Post

FLORIDA ATLANTIC: The Owls surrendered a whopping 622 total yards, including 330 rushing, as they were handled by UAB, 56-29, this past weekend. FAU (3-5) gained a respectable 440 total yards and went 11-of-18 on third downs, but couldn't overcome an early 28-7 deficit. Jeff Van Camp, making his first start, threw for 254 yards with three touchdowns against two picks. He also added a score on the ground, providing a nice replacement for starter Rusty Smith, who is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. Losers of two in a row, FAU will return home to host Arkansas State this coming weekend.

ARKANSAS STATE: Ryan Aplin came off the bench and pulled the Red Wolves within three points, but a late interception sealed a 21-18 victory for UL-Lafayette. The freshman quarterback came in with ASU (2-6, 1-3) trailing 21-3 in the third quarter and he led two long scoring drives in the fourth quarter to make it a 21-18 game. However, with the Red Wolves on the move and in ULL territory, Aplin was picked off and the Ragin' Cajuns ran out the clock. Aplin finished the game 8-of-14 for 147 yards, while Reggie Arnold rushed for 38 yards and a pair of touchdowns. As a team, ASU managed just 239 total yards and turned the ball over three times on its way to a second straight loss. The Red Wolves open a two-game road trip this weekend with a visit to Florida Atlantic.

FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL: The Golden Panthers gave up 34 straight points to start the game and could never fully recover in a 48-21 loss to Middle Tennessee over the weekend. FIU (2-7, 2-4) surrendered 587 total yards, including 385 rushing, and managed just 324 yards itself, with four turnovers. Kendall Berry put forth his best effort of the campaign in the loss, as he rushed for 103 yards and three scores on 19 carries. Quarterback Wayne Younger, unfortunately, wasn't nearly as successful, completing only 14-of-38 pass attempts for 178 yards and three interceptions. The Panthers will return back home this weekend to host North Texas.

MIDDLE TENNESSEE: The Blue Raiders rolled up 587 yards of total offense and scored the first 34 points of the game en route to a 48-21 triumph of Florida International this past weekend. Quarterback Dwight Dasher was a sensational in the victory, as he rushed for 178 yards and three touchdowns, in addition to throwing for 182 yards and two more scores. Dasher was picked three times, but it didn't stop MT (6-3, 4-1) from winning its third straight contest. D.D. Kyles added 110 yards on 22 carries, helping the Blue Raiders pile up 385 yards on the ground. The defense got involved as well, recording four takeaways and six sacks. Chris McCoy had a pair of sacks, while Marcus Udell came up with a two interceptions. MT will look to continue its run this weekend against UL-Lafayette.

NORTH TEXAS: The Mean Green turned the ball over three times and was limited to just 268 total yards, as it suffered a 33-6 loss to UL-Monroe this past weekend. It was a complete turnaround for UNT (2-7, 1-4), which had 583 total yards and nine offensive touchdowns in a 68-49 win over Western Kentucky just one week ago. Quarterback Riley Dodge accounted for seven touchdowns in that win, but he was limited to just 189 yards and three picks by ULM's defense. Darius Carey was his main outlet, finishing with nine receptions for 72 yards. Lance Dunbar had just 40 rushing yards on 15 carries after going for 200-plus yards last weekend against Western Kentucky. The Mean Green will head to Miami to take on Florida International this coming weekend.

TROY: The Trojans continued to roll, as they used a balanced attack of 201 rushing yards and 276 passing to capture a 40-20 win over Western Kentucky this past weekend. Freshman tailback Shawn Southward had a breakout performance in the victory, rushing for 139 yards and a school-record tying four touchdowns. Quarterback Levi Brown threw for 251 yards and a score, as the Trojans (7-2, 6-0) extended their winning streak to seven, the longest since the program moved to the FBS level in 2001. Brandon Lang led the defense with 13 stops and two sacks, helping Troy remain atop the SBC standings at 6-0. The Trojans will step out of league play this weekend to face Arkansas of the SEC.

UL-LAFAYETTE: Lance Kelley's interception with 2:52 left sealed the deal, as the Ragin' Cajuns held off a rally from Arkansas State in a 21-18 triumph over the weekend. ULL (5-4, 3-2) led 21-3 before ASU scored 15-unanswered points early in the fourth quarter and the Cajuns were able to hang on thanks to Kelley's pick. The Cajuns' defense was stout all game long, holding ASU to just 239 yards, while recording three takeaways and the same amount of sacks. Offensively, ULL totaled 376 yards and converted on 10-of-16 third-down chances. Quarterback Chris Masson did a majority of the damage, as he threw for 229 yards, while rushing for 30 more yards and two scores. The Cajuns snapped a two-game slide with the outcome and will conclude their three-game road swing at Middle Tennessee this weekend.

UL-MONROE: Frank Goodin rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, as the Warhawks pushed their way past North Texas, 33-6, this past weekend. Quarterback Trey Revell also had a solid game for ULM (5-4, 4-1), completing 14-of-22 pass attempts for 282 yards and two scores. His primary target was LaGregory Sapp, who reeled in seven passes for 187 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The defense also stepped up for the Warhawks, registering three takeaways and the same amount of sacks, while holding North Texas to just 268 total yards. Greg James came up with three interceptions, as ULM snapped a two-game slide. The Warhawks will head home to host Western Kentucky this weekend.

WESTERN KENTUCKY - The Hilltoppers put up a good fight this past weekend, but were outscored 19-0 in the second half of a 40-20 loss to first-place Troy. WKU (0-9, 0-5) gained 422 total yards, but hurt itself with 10 penalties, as the nation's longest losing streak was extended to 17 games. Quarterback Kawaun Jakes had a good performance in the setback, as he rushed for 121 yards and a score, in addition to throwing for 185 yards and a touchdown. The Toppers however, gave up 477 total yards to Troy and failed to force a single turnover. WKU has another difficult task this weekend, as it faces UL-Monroe.
