N.C. State Upends FAU 84-70

The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team fell to N.C. State 84-70 on Tuesday night from Kay Yow Court at Reynolds Coliseum.  Brittany Bowe paced the Owls offense with 22 points.  The senior also tallied four assists and collected four rebounds before fouling out of the game with two minutes remaining in the second half.  Bowe finished one point shy of her career high.

The Owls (1-2) started off the game on a 6-0 run after Andrea Taylor knocked down a three-pointer two minutes into the first half.  FAU maintained a slim advantage throughout the first half until the five-minute mark when Marissa Kastanek sank a three-pointer that gave the Wolfpack (2-1) its first lead at 26-25.  Kastanek, a freshman, scored 20 points and made 4-of-5 shots from behind the arc in the game.

After the Owls fell behind for the first time, they were unable to retake the lead for the remainder of the game.  The Wolfpack closed out the first half on a 16-6 run and took a 42-31 lead into halftime.  N.C. State continued to control the momentum after halftime and scored the first 10 points of the second half to open up a 21-point advantage.

The Owls continued to battle down the stretch but could not overcome the large deficit and the relentless play of N.C. State’s Amber White.  The junior scored a game-high 25 points and went 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in the victory.  FAU was also outrebounded in the game 50-30 as the Woflpack controlled the inside with 40 points in the paint.

FAU will briefly return home before hitting the road again on Saturday for a match up against Head Coach Chancellor Dugan’s alma mater, Eastern Kentucky.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m with the pregame show to start at 1:45 pm.  The game will be streamed live on www.fausports.com.
