The Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team fell to Bethune-Cookman 66-61 on Wednesday night from Moore Gymnasium.

The Owls (3-5) were paced by Lyrell Barfield as the junior scored 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting.  FAU also got another solid performance from senior point guard Brittany Bowe who scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished three assists.  The Ocala native has led FAU in assists in all eight games this season.  Senior forward Jessica Knurick led the Owls with 13 rebounds, one shy of a career high.

The Wildcats (2-5) featured a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring in double-digits.  Sarah Bolden and Porche Anderson both scored 14 points.  Eunisha Proctor tallied a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Demetria Frank added 13 points.

The game was back-and-forth in the early going as neither team found an offensive rhythm in the first half.  FAU held Bethune-Cookman to 23.1% shooting but still were only able to hold a 24-21 lead at halftime.

In the second half, FAU was not able to keep the Wildcats down for long.  With FAU leading 30-29 and 17 minutes remaining, Bethune-Cookman went on 26-7 run over the next 10 minutes to take their largest lead of 55-37.  However, a multitude of turnovers by the Wildcats allowed FAU to climb back into the game.  The Owls cut the deficit to nine points after a 13-4 run made the score 59-50.  Both teams would trade baskets until the two minute mark when a Brittany Bowe layup brought the Owls to within six at 61-55.  Despite the momentum shift, Bethune-Cookman made enough free-throws down the stretch to earn the win.

Bethune-Cookman out-rebounded FAU 49-38 and collected 21 offensive rebounds as FAU had no answer down low for the Wildcat post players.

FAU will be have 10 days off for finals before returning to action on December 12 against UCF.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
