FAU Men’s Swimmer and Diver Sweeps Sun Belt Conference Weekly Awards

Two members of the Florida Atlantic University men’s swimming and diving team have been recognized for the first time by the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) for their outstanding performances in last week’s final home match of the season.

Junior David Rudolf was named the league’s “Swimmer of the Week” while sophomore Andrew Scully received “Diver of the Week” honors – marking the seventh time this season that a FAU men’s swimmer has earned such recognition.

Rudolf, a native of Budapest , Hungary , was instrumental in the Owls’ come-from-behind victory in a triangular meet against perennial junior college national power Indian River State College and Florida A&M University .  The junior picked up victories in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke events.  He set a season-best time (1:52.60) with his victory in the 200-yard backstroke to win the event by two seconds over teammate Csaba Pek, a three-time SBC “Swimmer of the Week” honoree.  Rudolf also recorded a third place showing in the 200-yard individual medley.  Every point was needed as FAU defeated Indian River by five points.

Competing in his first meet of the season, Scully made an immediate influence to the FAU team by taking top honors in both the one- and three-meter diving competitions. The sophomore from Gainesville posted consistent scores of 274.43 points in the 3-meter event and 272.10 points off the one-meter board.  He won the three-meter event by nearly 75 points and cruised to a 50-point victory at the one-meter level.

Other Owls receiving SBC honors this season have included Pek, as well as divers Garret LeMon and Kyle Lloyd.

FAU wraps the regular season on Saturday, January 30 beginning at 1 p.m. in a triangular meet in Daytona Beach against the University of North Florida and Daytona Beach State College.
