Sun Valley Owls...

Driving through Sun Valley in Boynton Beach today to visit family and decided to snap these shots of a pair of burrowing owls that reside there along the sidewalk…you can see how small they are in the second pic, and the way the nest is literally built into the sidewalk…nice choice!

Here's a close-up of the pair…

And here you can see how they have crafted their nest against the sidewalk…

Re: Sun Valley Owls...

Didn't know this until recently, but burrowing owls like to collect dog manure and line their nests in and around with it to wart off would be predator's sense of smell…

This is the clump located jut to the right of the owl on the right in the second photo…

No thanks, but glad it works for them!

Re: Sun Valley Owls...

This is pretty nice!
How big is the population of burrowing owls at FAU?
Were they removed and relocated on campus?
FAU should be proud of having the school's mascot living on campus.

Latest figure I saw was around 20 or so adults, but the population has dwindled significantly over the last 10 years…

You can still see them occassionally, like at the UM game earlier this season when one swooped down on to the field during the game…but sightings are definitely fewer and further between…
