Softball: Owls Split Doubleheader With North Texas

Jessica Myers Goes 4-for-7 on the Night

The Florida Atlantic softball team split a doubleheader with Troy on Saturday night.

The Owls trailed 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning of game one. Leadoff hitter Brittany Walker struck out, but reached on a passed ball. Kerri Croney then reached on a fielder’s choice when the Trojans unsuccessfully tried to retire Walker at second. After a Blair Bodenmiller walk, Jessica Myers’ infield single scored Walker for the first run of the game for FAU. Rose Gressley came to the plate and cleared the bases with a double to right center that tied the game at 4.

Neither team scored in the seventh inning so the game went into extra innings. FAU had a chance to score in the first extra frame, but Diandra Fernandez was tagged out at home while trying to score on an Ashlyn Parmerter double. Troy scored in the top of the ninth inning on an infield single to take a 5-4 lead. Croney came up to bat with two out and none on, and smacked a single to left. Bodenmiller came back up and drove in Croney with a double to right. Myers followed with a single of her own to left that scored Bodenmiller and gave FAU the 6-5 win.

In the nightcap, Troy scored two unearned runs in the second inning and Ashlyn Williams was able to make the lead stand up, salvaging a split for the Trojans with a 3-1 win in game two.  Myers and Joshlyn Martinez both had four hits on the night for the Owls. Sunday’s rubber match in the series will begin at 1 p.m.
