Spring Practice Notes 04-12-10

The football team returned to the field on Monday afternoon, enjoying some sprinkles of rain that provided a cooler than normal practice temperature.

"The competition level picked up today," said Coach Schnellenberger. "The defense is starting to measure up to the offense. I’m pleased that it is coming about.”

The session began with individual drills where the defense worked on footwork while the the offense concentrated on agility and routes.

Efforts then moved into install where the defense focused on pass defense and the offense ran through corrections.

During the seven-on-seven segment, the defense worked on one-on-one coverage with the offensive lineman. Nickel coverage was also a part of the drill.

The last 45 minutes was held for team work. During the red zone portion of the team drills it looked like it was going to be all offense, especially when Willie Floyd slipped on the wet grass and caught the ball from the ground. But, Tavious Polo, who had a solid outing last Saturday, turned it around for the defense chasing Rob Housler out of the back of the end zone and stripping the ball before he could come down with a score.

The squad returns to the Oxley on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
