Spring Practice Comments 04-21-10

Next to last practice of the Spring came and went today. Wow, it seems like it just started.

Some clouds in the area, but the rain stayed away to allow for almost a two hour session.

The squad spent extra time on team drills today beginning with "coming out" (deep within own territory) then working through situationals and standard sets.

Jeff Van Camp connected with the tight ends on some routes, but also tossed an interception that Ed Alexander came down with for the defense.

Linebacker Michael Lockley tipped a pass that was pulled in by Marcus Bartels and returned for nearly 15 yards.

Caught up with wide receiver Coach Jared Allen to see what he thinks of the progress being made by his unit, what his thoughts are for the upcoming season's line up, and what type of formations we could see:

We know DeAndre Richardson is on the radar in a big way, but of note is his mention of Byron Hankerson. Threw his name in the consideration bag a bit ago to potentially be that "walk-on" story FAU seems to have every season. So, good to hear he is progressing along nicely.

But, as a whole, Coach Schnellenberger wasn't thrilled with today's overall efforts.

"A couple guys got banged up and others had to take on some more (responsibility) and we didn't rise to the occasion", said a shrugging Howard Schnellenberger.

"I told them today that it's time we start thinking about the end of the practice season", he said. "We've go two days to get that straightened out."

The team will return to the Oxley for a pad-less practice session on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before hosting the Spring Game this Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
