Softball Sweeps Doubleheader From ULM

Wins Snap Five Game Losing Streak

Jessica Myers and Kerri Croney provided the big hits in the Florida Atlantic softball team’s doubleheader sweep over ULM on Thursday.

FAU won the first game 3-2. ULM got on the board scoring two runs in the first inning on a walk, back-to-back hits and a sacrifice fly. The Owls broke loose for three runs in the sixth inning. Amber Jones came to the plate with two outs and doubled to center. Croney followed with a single to left that brought Myers up to bat. Myers hit the first pitch from Kandace Causey over the fence in left center to put FAU ahead 3-2.

Melissa Rivera hit a one-out infield single, then after a fielder’s choice, Jessica Olguin singled, putting runners on first and third. Rose Gressley then caught pinch runner Amanda Sartoris trying to steal home to end the inning. The Warhawks managed only a walk in the seventh inning before being retired.

ULM went ahead 2-0 in the first inning on a walk, single and a double. The Owls cut the lead in half in the second inning, on an RBI infield single by Kirstin Austin that drove in Myers to cut the deficit 2-1. The Warhawks reestablished their lead, scoring two more runs in the second inning to make the score 4-1. FAU scored two more runs in the third inning on an RBI double by Croney, who eventually scored on a ULM error to cut the margin to 4-3.

The score didn’t change again until the fifth inning, when Myers drove in Blair Bodenmiller, on an RBI single to tie the game at 4. The two teams went to extra innings tied at 4. Bodenmiller led off the ninth with a single to center, then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jones. Croney then came up to bat again and smacked a homerun to center to make the score 6-4. Ashlyn Parmerter provided the final margin of victory with a two-run single that drove in Myers and Joshlyn Martinez.

Taylor Fawbush went 6.2 innings in relief for her team-best eighth win of the season.

FAU will seek a series sweep on Friday with first pitch scheduled for noon eastern. Live stats of the series will be available at fausports.com.
