FAU: Projected starter - RHP Ryan Garton (5-1, 4.64 ERA)
USA: Projected starter - RHP D.D. Hanks (9-2, 3.38 ERA)

The Series: The Owls holds a 6-3 series lead over the Jaguars.  The Owls took two of three games from USA in their only appearance at Stanky Field, in Mobile back in 2008.

  • [li]The Jaguars have been tough at home, are 19-7 overall and 7-2 in conference games at home.  USA have won six of its seven conference series, and has not lost an SBC series at home this season.[/li]
    [li]The Jaguars leads the conference in doubles (103), stolen bases (89) and steal attempts (115) and are tied for first with (533) hits.[/li]
    [li]Hold a team batting average of (.324) which is ranks second in the conference and in league play, the Jaguars leads the conference in runs scored (178), RBI (159), stolen bases (36) and steal attempts (49). [/li]
    [li]Jake Overstreet leads the SBC in RBI (64), and is tied for third nationally and averages  (1.39) RBI per game in league play which ranks 22nd nationally. [/li]
    [li]The Jags have two plays that rank near the top in stolen bases, Adam Heisler leads the SBC in stolen bases (24), and ranks 29th nationally, while Taylor White ranks second in the league with (23) steals and ranks 38th nationally.[/li]
    [li]The Jags average 8.5 runs and 11.2 hits per game in SBC contests, while USA pitchers allow just 6.9 runs per game in league games.[/li]

  • [li]The Owls enters the weekend with a 9-7 reacord as road warriors and 8-4 in conference games. The Owls do come off a sweep of Arkansas State last weekend, and carry a 8-2 record in their last ten games heading into this weekend's series.[/li]
    [li]Ryan Garton enters Friday's contest with a 4.64 ERA, while holding opponents to .294 batting average.  Garton has 54 strikeouts in 54.1 innings pitched against and has issued 20 walks.[/li]
    [li]The Owls pitching rank second in the conference in opposing batting average (.276) and saves (11)….third in hits allowed (429), fourth in ERA (4.77) and strikeouts (328).[/li]
    [li]Dan Scheffler leads the Owls offensively with a (.397) batting average , (18) doubles, (13) home runs, (54) RBI,  and (50) runs scored. Scheffler leads the SBC in slugging (.788) and on-base percentage (.520) and is tied for the league lead in doubles, ranks third in batting average and fourth in home runs and RBI.[/li]
    [li]Andy Mee ranks second in the conference play with (77) hits, and fifth in batting average (.395).[/li]
    [li]The Owls hold a combined .309 batting average while holding opponents to a .276 average.  Have a combine 4.77 ERA with the opposition holding a 6.40 against Owl hitting.[/li]

The Owls collected two hits in the top of the 1st, including a lead-off single by Church, but strand both base runners.

Garton retired the Jags in order...to end the 1st.

The Owls strand two more base runners in the 2nd…Garton has now put down all six Jag batters he has faced with 1 KO and has held them hit-less after 2 innings of play.

No score in the ball game.

The Owls have managed at least one hit (4 total) in every inning, but have failed to string anything together to mound any type of threat.

The Owls have used two singles (DelGuidice & Gratton) & a walk by Mesa to load the bases in the 4th - 1 out.

Mee comes up big in the 4th...a 2out double clears the base and the Owls managed to push four runs across to take a 4-0 lead.

The Jags finally managed their first single of the night…but Garton keeps them at bay.  The score remains 4-0 in the Owls favor.
