The 2010 Major League Baseball draft started tonight at 7:00 p.m.

According to Coach John McCormack, Mike Gipson is likely a high round choice, and Ryan Bernal is probable in this year's draft.

Mike Gipson - RHP

2010: 3.70 ERA, 8-2, 112 IP, 96K's

Ryan Bernal - RHP

2010: 3.00 ERA, 6-3, 42 IP, 44 K's

FAU has had at least two players drafted in each of the last seven seasons. Prior to last year, the Owls had three in the previous six years. So, there will be a slight drop off trending if two holds true again this time around.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bernal goes before Gipson - who is still on the board:

23rd Round

Pick 699 MIL R/R RHP Ryan Bernal

Florida Atlantic

Congrats to Ryan!

I know that Bernal struggled at times, but he does have good movement on his fastball…the Brewers saw enough in him & figured they could to develop him or at least take a chance on him.

Not so sure Gip will be departing with a late round selection...you would think he would consider returning for his senior year - which would be very nice!

Not going to get any serious cash or respecte this year. Smart move would be to come back better and have a GREAT senior year and get some SERIOUS signing cash!

Re: FAU and the 2010 MLB Draft

How does a school like FGCU get a Chris Sale who's from Lakeland but we can't? Is it because they're afraid a player like that may bolt to the draft right away rather than attend school?

Just curious as to how FGCU has this dominating pitcher who gets picked in the 1st round and we can't ever get a player like that when year in and year out we are contenders in baseball

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: FAU and the 2010 MLB Draft

They have a relatively new facility for one - opened in 2004…and a solid coach as well…

But he was the 13th pick on Monday, so he's a goner!

They also had an incoming FRESHMAN, Sean Dwyer drafted yesterday in the 15th round.

Very nice showing by the Eagles…

FAU and the 2010 MLB Draft

Now is that more of good or bad news for the program?

Good that they will stay and the program will be better next year for it

VS

Bad that nobody got drafted highly and that might affect recruiting

Just got an e-mail from Baseball SID Jared Smith - Mike Gipson has signed and will be departing for Tampa tommorow.

Very best to Mike in the Pin Stripes!
