Smith Looking Rusty in Titans Camp

Post

Former Owl QB Rusty Smith started his NFL camp with Tennessee looking "poised" and "sharp". But according to the last few Titans Training Camp Notebooks posted on www.titansonline.com, Smith has been looking a little rusty.

(Aug. 10) • A Rusty Smith pass was intercepted by safety Vincent Fuller after it was tipped by Trahan.
(Aug. 09) • Cornerback Ryan Mouton made a nice pass breakup on a pass from Rusty Smith.
(Aug. 08) • **No Practice**
(Aug. 07) • During a live tackling team drill, CB Alterraun Verner intercepted a pass from Rusty Smith intended for Bobby Sewall.
(Aug. 06) • LB Gerald McRath looked good dropping back in coverage and made a leaping tip to break up a ball thrown by Rusty Smith.

Smith's poor performance has only taken place within the last few days. Prior to his recent struggle, Smith was looking like a possible #2 signal caller.

(Aug. 05) • Rookie quarterback Rusty Smith connected with receiver Kenny Britt for two long touchdown passes, both within a few plays of each other.  The first was a deep fade down the sideline for 64 yards and the second was down the same sideline for a 40-yard score.

Smith will continue practicing with the team through Thursday in Nashville before flying to Seattle for the Titans first preseason game. Expect to see Smith and fellow QB Chris Simms share a fair amount of time against the Seahawks, as both signal callers are competing for the third and likely final spot on the depth chart. Their game performance will help determine the decision for Titans front office.

Re: Smith Looking Rusty in Titans Camp

I've been following too. He was doing great up until the past 3 days. Ghost of Buchanon where are you? We need to post that pic of Rusty with the bandana and Burt Reynolds mustache. I think its good for Rusty's mojo.

Beware the talons of the Mighty Owls!

Smith Looking Rusty in Titans Camp

According to Titans Insider | Titans news and analysis from Tennessean.com

Vince Young needs to get into rhythm with the starters.

Chris Simms needs a chance to get comfortable with his new teammates in his second stint with the team.

Rookie Rusty Smith just needs some experience. And he'll get plenty on the preseason.

So where does that leave veteran Kerry Collins? Titans Coach Jeff Fisher acknowledged on Wednesday he'll get the least amount of work of the four quarterbacks on the team.

So far during training camp Collins has looked very sharp, not a guy in need of the work.
