Volleyball Opens Season With Sweep
The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team opened its 2010 campaign with two victories on Friday.
The Owls (2-0) defeated Bethune-Cookman 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-13) in their season opener. FAU got out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and never looked back, winning the set by that same five point margin. In the second set, Cintia Nightingale served FAU to 10 straight points on the way to a 25-8 second set victory. Another fast start in the third set but FAU ahead 6-0, and the Owls took the last five points of the set to clinch the match. Christina Wallinger had a match high 12 kills in the victory.
FAU edged Houston Baptist in five sets in its second match of the day. After the two teams split the first four sets, the Owls used a 9-2 run in the fifth set to take a 15-8 win. Darija Sataric and Kirstyna Dzmuranova tied for the team high with 12 kills each.
The Owls will wrap up the FGCU Invitational on Saturday, when they face the host Eagles.
