Sun Belt Football: Games for October 8th & 9th, 2010

Post

Here's the Sun Belt Football lineup for Week six, October 8th & 9th.

As usual, teams in bold are the desired winners for the Owls - either by a SOS booster with a victory, or taking a lump and helping out in the conference standings with a loss.

October 8th

Louisiana (2-2) vs #22 Oklahoma State (4-0) @ 9:00 p.m. - ESPN2

Louisiana has a BCS team at home, and while it would be a great win, the Cowboys are 22-2 all-time against Sun Belt opponents, and 5-0 against UL winning both games at Cajun Field. Not happening this time either, although it would be nice for SOS.

October 9th

Western Kentucky (0-4) vs Florida International (0-4) @ 3:30 p.m. - Sun Belt Network

In the O-fer battle, FIU should get their first win. However, despite "being in the game" against much better quality opponents, still seeing a close one until the fourth quarter - which will decide it. Toppers get the nod given the obvious tussle the Panthers will present FAU later.

Hilltoppers Open Sun Belt Play at FIU

Florida Atlantic (1-3) vs Louisiana-Monroe (1-3) @ 7:00 p.m. - None

This game is a must win for FAU to keep any hopes of a post season alive. Drop this one and it is over. Expecting the usual close game between the two teams, with FAU pulling it out in the end.

Owl's Nest Game Preview

Arkansas State (1-4) vs North Texas (1-4) @ 7:00 p.m. - Pay Per View @ AStateRedWolves.com

Down to their fourth string QB, it aint looking good for the not so Mean Green lately. Riley Dodge is available, with a broken wrist, if things go south. Regardless, this one still looks to be close. Given that the Owls still have to face ASU, and have already lost to UNT, pulling for the Red Wolves.

Real good 1st half for the Cajuns. OSU has to get the D to step up and challenge, just laying back and letting them catch the ball in front of them (sound familiar???). I hope our Cooaches see this 1st half as how NOT TO D them later this year! Troy showed how to play the D vs. the spread - just manhandled and destroyed MTSU. D line has to penetrate and then one or even two LB's shadowing the qb clean up the mess!

What bothers me the most about this, is that I look at the score and know if it were FAU playing this game it would easily be 21-0 or 21-3 at half. How can teams like FIU, ULL (I REFUSE to call them Louisiana) stay competitive with the Rutgers, Marylands and OK State but we can't?

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

FINAL

ULL 28
Ok State 54

OSU scored 24 in the third to ULL's 7… sounds like they had a very productive halftime conversation. Don't know if ULL couldn't adjust or did adjust but didn't have the horses.
