FAU Cheer Breaks Top-10 Nationally
Florida Atlantic University’s cheer teams competed at the United Cheer Association (UCA) College Cheerleading Nationals last weekend with the co-ed squad advancing to the finals, and finishing No. 9.
FAU was the only Sun Belt Conference member to make the final round at the event, which was hosted by ESPN Wide World of Sports and is the largest college cheerleading competition in the world.
Teams from all over the country submitted videos demonstrating tumbling and stunting skills. With a review of the video that took over three months to prepare and a perfect score of 15, FAU was selected as one of the 16 teams to compete.
Under the direction of Head Coach Heather Henderson, the group has grown from 16 to almost 40 members since 2003.
The squad consists of a co-ed and all girls team which competes at the Division I level.
