Spring Training 2011: First day of Pads - With Pics!
Cortez Ash is struggling knowing when not to tackle someone. Last season he hit Stinson in a no contact setting on the first day of fall camp; putting him on the sideline for a bit with a bum ankle afterwards. This year he tackles a guy when not supposed to again, and Van let him have it.
He wasn't the only one getting an earful though. Jabyes Cross got tossed off the field by Jackson (photo below) and into running duty for a bit after failing to follow directions. And Jackson is normally a very calm guy.
Most interesting matter of the day had to be Xavier Stinson lining up at linebacker. He approached the coaching staff with the notion, and they said go ahead and give it a shot. He would like to play both ways, and did so in high school. So, we'll see how that goes…
QB play went like this: Kooi mostly ran the number ones, Wilbert mostly the number twos, and Curtis (3) and Bracewell (4) rounded things out.
“We may be young in areas but the players are making the plays just like players in the past,” said Coach Schnellenberger afterwards. “The gap is closing in the ability between first and second team and we aren’t seeing the drop in production from one player to the next.”
Below are some pics from the session…
