Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt has admitted he doesn't believe QB Rusty Smith has starter upside.
“He’s still got all the tools. I think he’s a young man that has a chance to play in the league for a number of years. He might not be a starter, but he could be a pretty darn good backup for a while. He’s got all the things you look for: the strong arm, the good size and he’s got a good touch, a quick release.”
The Titans are still expected to bring in a veteran to back-up No. 8 pick Jake Locker. Smith's 2011 ceiling is likely 3rd string QB.

What has Rusty done to show otherwise? I know the team quit after the whole VY thing and they did drop some good passes that RS threw. However, I think we all saw what their GM and coaching staff saw, he did not look comfortable out there. A lot of bad decisions.
On the other hand…. All Rusty has heard throughout college is "he can't, they won't" and well he did and they did! So he can go out there and prove everyone wrong again
My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

I wish I could be a "darn good backup" QB with that kind of pay for several years!

That being said, he didn't look very good when he played…but neither did Peyton Manning as a rookie.

I still think Jared Allen was the best QB FAU has ever had. Rusty was good but lacked consistency, at times he appeared, well, "rusty".
Rusty won two bowl games. Jared Allen (I am a big fan by the way) played vs D-I AA talent. Big difference. Hard to compare.

2003, we went 11-3. 2004, we went 9-3, while we were in transition. In 2005 we had Danny Embick. 2006 Rusty started went 5-7, yes we had 1A teams but we still lost to Louisiana lafayette, Troy, as well as a nice stomping by Middle Tenn. 2007 from then on we had good years but I feel that if Allan had the opportunity to play 1A teams he would have played up to there level. Also in 2005 we were not eligible for a Bowl game due to the 1A restrictions on transition teams. Im not knocking Rusty at all, he's a great QB I just wish Allan was giving the opportunity to show his ability to the Football community. I always felt if he was given tougher opponents he would have shined more and gone further with his post collegiate football career.
