Looks like a very nice land for the Owls…

Chose FAU over Miami, UCF and Ole Miss…impressive!

"I had my choice of Miami, UCF and Ole Miss, but FAU was one of the closest to home," Santana said. "It was more welcoming when I was there and less pressure. It just felt right."

Looks like we may have to steal him from the biggest boy of all…

"Speaking on a static-riddled cellphone from the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, fresh from a workout with the Seattle Mariners and on his way to another workout with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Mariner High senior Alex Santana found a few minutes for an interview."

We'd be able to if we beat some bigger schools consistently like baseball does..but baseball's different. There are a TON of good/great baseball players all over the baseball states, Fl,GA,TX,CA..its easier to get good there's more around. Also, a football roster is what 75? A baseball roster is 25, not all those top players are going to go to the best schools. And even the best h/s players don't go to the biggest baseball programs, they go to the pros (which I think is stupid).

So to sum things up…its easier for our baseball team to recruit better players because 1) Our team has a history of success 2) We usually beat some top teams and 3) Our conference is above average.

Nice to see some fellow high school alumni picking FAU and that the talent has made a comeback. The size thing is surprising back in 98 (we held the state of Florida Mr. Football Earnest Graham and Mr. Basketball Ted Dupay) they had some talent in football and basketball our baseball team was alright but after that year they lost a lot of size and talent across the board in all sports. That school district in Lee county started a new choose your school program and it was detrimental to sports programs where some teams would be then stacked and others would falter. We went from a 6A school to a 4A in the matter of a couple years.
