In a quality win, FAU notched a 3-1 road victory tonight over pre-season Top 25 ranked Florida Gulf Coast University.

Ironically, FGCU outshot the visiting Owls 19-6 for the evening.

The Eagles were slotted #14 by Goal.com, #22 from Soccer America, and #24 by College Soccer News heading into the match.

SR Darnell King scored a pair for Florida Atlantic, while JR Lukas Simons accounted for the team's other score.

After allowing a goal at the 25th minute of the first half, FAU's defense kicked into gear the rest of the way, holding the Eagles scoreless.

The Owls will next head south for a show down with FIU on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

The Owls fought hard, but ended Sunday's grueling four period match against FIU in a 1-1 tie.

Aggression paid no dividends for the the Panthers, who posted 20 shots for the night compared to FAU's seven, but were flagged for four yellow cards to the visitor's none.

After falling behind early in the match, Lukas Simons put FAU's only score on the board thanks to a well placed ball from Darnell King.

Florida Atlantic Goalie Jeremy Crumpton came up big with 11 saves, seven of which were after the first period, to preserve the tie.

Scoring a goal in each period, Florida Atlantic (3-2-1) edged past a feisty Stetson squad 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at FAU Soccer Stadium.

The match, which was physically intense throughout, saw six yellow cards and one red card issued by the referees. On the day the home team was whistled 14 times to just nine for the Hatters.

Darnell King (photo) and Gabriel Rafols each took advantage of precisely placed feeds by fellow Owl Karol Chorak. King's Goal occurred midway through the first period, and Rofols' was well timed, just over eight minutes after the Hatters netted the match tying goal in the second.

FAU's Martin Nesic saw only three minutes of action late in the match before being ejected on a questionable play.

The Owls will be back in action Thursday at Georgia State. Match time is 4:00 p.m.

Without the presence of offensive leader Darnell King, the Owls (3-3-1) had a tough time getting off shots today (7), eventually falling 3-0 against Georgia State.

The Panthers (4-1-1) on the other hand were busy, tallying 21-7 overall attempts with seven on those on target.

Florida Atlantic played solid defense until the 62:00 mark of the second period, before giving up all three scores within just over 15 minutes.

FAU recorded just one shot attempt thereafter.

Florida Atlantic trailed for 86 minutes of its match against North Florida on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville.

But two late goals quickly changed matters as the Owls (4-3-1) downed the Ospreys 2-1 to get back in the win column.

UNF assumed the lead at the 28 minute mark of the first period as Josh Ciambella took advantage of a one-on-one situation against FAU goalie Jeremy Crumpton.

With little offense taking place for the visiting Owls, that score held for what seemed to be the winning difference until Ramin Rahemi netted a solo effort late in the action. FAU would capitalize off the shift in momentum for the game winner just over a minute later as Stan Castaldo (photo) put a pass from Michael Dunbar in the goal from 15 yards out with just under three minutes to go.

North Florida (1-6-0) took the edge in total shots with 12, but were matched in those on target at five a piece.

The Owls were whistled for four yellow and one red card for the contest.
