Running Thread: 2011 FAU Coaching Search update....

Post

Rather than make a bunch of different posts about the coaching search, I thought just putting it in one place would be easier.

So with that said, we can count Terry Bowden out……

Terry Bowden the leading candidate for position at University of New Mexico

The University of North Alabama could soon be looking for a new head football coach.

Terry Bowden is considering a job at the University of New Mexico.

Sources at the University of New Mexico said Bowden is considering making that move.

Bowden has been at UNA for three seasons. He also coached the Auburn Tigers from 1993 until 1998.

The University of North Alabama has not responded.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Re: FAU Coaching Search update....

And here's an article that says he's NOT interested in the UNM job.

“I am not a candidate for the New Mexico job,” Bowden said Wednesday night.

“I’m not sure where that got started but no one from New Mexico has contacted me and I have not contacted anyone from New Mexico. I am not interested in New Mexico.”

Ne Mexico would be an odd fit for Bowden.  He's stayed pretty much in the Southern part of the US his entire career.

Makes me wonder if Angelos has bigger fish he's looking to fry for this position?

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

In this one he said he would be open to any opportunity he sees as better…

With Florida Atlantic to begin coaching search, North Alabama’s Terry Bowden would be ‘open’ to a better opportunity | FAU Focus blog: Florida Atlantic University Owls sports | The Palm Beach Post

The question is whether Leach wants to even coach here.

Its not his choice.  ;D.  I'll be down in the keys Thanksgiving week, and we'll hit Key West for a day, I think I'll just go knock on his door and have a chat.  Maybe I'll accidentally leave some FAU gear on his doorstep, these things happen you know.  :D

Depends on how much he cares about:

  1. A lower salary;
  2. The reputation of the Sun Belt;
  3. The location, the post-season opportunities, etc

That exactly sums it up.  To get Leach would be huge.  Most believe he will hold out for a higher profile job that obviously pays more.  I think Jim Leavitt is a much more realistic possibility.
