FIU Football Earns Bid to2011 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl

Post

The FIU football team will make its second consecutive appearance in a postseason bowl game as the Panthers were invited to play in the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl Saturday.

The Panthers will hit the gridiron on December 20 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Game time is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and FIU will likely learn its opponent within the next 24 hours.  The game will be broadcasted on ESPN.

FIU enters the Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl with an 8-4 record which is the best mark for the young Panther program that has only played in the Football Bowl Subdivision since 2005.  The Panthers jumped into the national spotlight early in the season with a 3-0 start on the year – including a win over Big East co-champion Louisville.

FIU, coached by Mario Cristobal and led by all-purpose threat T.Y. Hilton, earned its first bowl bid last season in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl and went on to defeat Toledo 34-32 in the game.  Hilton caught one touchdown and scored another on an 89-yard kickoff return en route to being named the game’s MVP.

FIU Football Earns Bid to2011 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl

Hate to say this but good for them and good for the Belt! Poor WKU got screwed (as did ALL non AQ programs today!), Big10 has four 6-6 teams going to bowls - if they did not schedule so many FCS and MAC games they would not be going for sure! Thirteen 6-6 teams and one 6-7 team overall and WKU at 7-5 and finishing very strong as opposed to Az. IL, UCLA ....teams they were so bad down the stretch they fired their coaches!

Thats a good bowl for them, hopefully their fan base shows up…they can get there by car!

You're right GA, what's good for the Belt is good for FAU and this is.

I hope they get destroyed, I don't care if it's good for the Belt. And I doubt their fans will show up, they didn't even show up against FAU

1. They do not deserve to be in a bowl as they lost to the only other competitive teams in the belt.

2. They have NO fan base, they do not even show up to home games. You think they will drive across the state to see them play Marshall? Especially when they are playing on tv.

Umm.... FIU made it into a Bowl Game this year?

OK so the Sun Belt only has to guaranteed ties to bowl games, but somehow, FIU became the third SBC team to make it into a bowl game in 2011. And not just any bowl game, a (somewhat) local bowl game. The Beef 'O' Brady's St. Petersburg Bowl.

Arkansas State - GoDaddy.com Bowl
Louisiana Lafayette - R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

Yeah, they also had 8 wins. WKU should've made a bowl too, they had 7 wins. Overall it was a good year for the belt. Gotta hand it to Mario and FIU, 8 wins, which is more than we've ever had since joining the SBC.

Things will change now though, with CP at the helm time to start a new streak of kicking their ass

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

They are basically repeating what we did in 2007 and 2008.
The only difference is that they qualified to this bowl with more wins, better recruits and an on campus stadium already in place with some renovations coming soon.
Brighter days are coming soon.
