The Owls head to Gainesville after having split a four game weekend series against Princeton 2-2. But it was not without consequences, as second leading hitter Alex Hudak (.421) suffered a fractured ankle when crashing into the outfield wall during an on-ball play that will have him out of the lineup for quite a while.
FAU was looking to rely upon the senior to lead the way at the plate for 2012, but the unforeseen emergence of Mike Albaladejo (.468) has given the team an additional lift through 11 games and continues to do so. So far the multipositional Albaladejo has posted three-hit performances in five contests. 3B Kyle Newton is currently tied with Hudak in RBI (13) but also leads the Owls with a team high 13 strikeouts.
Three of Florida Atlantic's wins have come by way of relief pitches this year, with R.J. Alvarez (photo) picking up two in seven apperances, and Kevin Alexander nabbing the other.
The Gators will be the second SEC opponent for FAU, with the Owls sweeping an earlier three game series against Alabama to open the season.
Florida is coming off a three game weekend sweep of then #8 Miami (7-5, 13-5 and 8-5) in Coral Gables, and now has 11 straight wins over the southern foe.
C Taylor Gushue, a native of Boca Raton, received his second SEC Freshman of the Week award on Monday after posting a .400, 4RBI, 3R, 2HR performance at Miami. In a showing a power, one of his round trippers landed in the third level of a parking garage which sits over right field.
Falling behind is no issue for Florida, who is a perfect 5-0 when allowing an opponent to score first. Offensively, they make the most out of the 5th inning, tallying 14 runs in the frame thus far on the season, with the 3rd and 4th innings falling next in line (11 each).

Owls go quietly in the top of the third before Ahmed Garcia takes the hill for the bottom of the frame in relief of Meiers.
