After losing to #1 Florida 16-1 on Tuesday in Gainesville, the Owls didn't arrive back on the Boca Raton campus until 2:15 a.m. But that didn't stop them from finding their way back into the win column quickly, knocking off Boston College 13-4 at FAU Baseball Stadium on Wednesday night.

Florida Atlantic pounded out a season high run tally in the victory, which featured seven in the 3rd which was bolstered by 2B Ricky Santiago's three run shot to left center. However the performance of the night went to RF Corey Keller (photo), who was standing in for the injured Alex Hudak. Keller served up a career high 6RBI for the Owls, including a gram slam in the 8th.

Middle reliever Ahmed Garcia picked up his first win on the year after tossing a hitless two innings in relief, with no walks, and three strikeouts.

The Owls currently have a 4.27 team ERA, effectively outdueling their faced opponents' collective mark of 6.07. RHP R.J. Alvarez is yet to allow an earned run on the year in seven relief appearances spanning 10.1 innings.

Rutgers returns to South Florida hoping to snap a three game skid after being swept last weekend by Georgia Tech (16-2, 9-4, 6-3). In their previous journey to the Sunshine State, UM took a three games from the Scarlet Knights (6-2, 4-1, 9-7) during their season series opener.

3B Patrick Kivlehan is leading the way at the plate for RU with a .348 batting average, but they aren't getting good long ball production with just three homers on the year, and have three players batting .206 or less in the starting lineup.

On the mound, the team has posted a 5.61 ERA on the year.

The Scarlet Knights were picked to finish 9th in the 2012 Preseason BIG EAST Baseball Coaches’ Poll.

Game One:

FINAL:

RU 2  FAU 5

Ryan Garton threw seven complete innings, allowing just one run on two hits (season low), and striking out seven, as the Owls downed Rutgers 5-2 in game one of the weekend series on Friday night at FAU Baseball Stadium.

Florida Atlantic (10-5) assumed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to another Corey Keller home run, this time good for 3RBI.

The Scarlet Knights would stick with starter Ryan Fasano, and narrowed the gap to 3-1 after Nick Favatella's triple set up a sac fly later in the top of the fourth.

But Fasano was touched up again in the bottom half of the inning, as Keller connected on a lead-off double that was followed by singles by 3B Kyle Newton and C Mike Spano, resulting in two more FAU scores.

RU (3-7) added the final run of the night in the top half of the ninth inning, but could only manage three hits on the evening.

R.J. Alvarez continued his run-free mark on the year, fanning the only two batters he faced in the 8th while thwarting a three-on-base threat.

The Owls improved to 7-of-10 at home on the season with the win, and will return to the field tomorrow at 4:00 PM for game two.

Obviously that's a typo since we haven't even lost 10 games this season. I know they split the 4 games with Princeton last wk. are those the only 2 losses at home?

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Game Two:

FINAL:

RU 6  FAU 3

The Scarlet Knights posted five runs in the 4th inning on Saturday en route to a 6-3 win in game two over Florida Atlantic.

Due to weather in the area, the game was delayed until 5:35 p.m.

The Owls (10-6) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when DH Ricky Santiago singled to center field to bring home Kyle Newton.

But after three solid innings initially, FAU starter Bo Logan (1-2) would find himself in a jam two frames later when Rutgers (4-7) pounced for five runs off three hits and two Owl errors.

Newton, who paced the offense with his 3-of-4, 2RBI performance, drove in Florida Atlantic's second run on the evening in the 6th to narrow the gap to 5-2.

The teams each added a run later in the 9th for the closing tally.

Despite the outcome, Kevin Alexander was effective in relief of Logan, tossing six innings while giving up only one run off six hits.

The teams will meet for the series finale tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

Game Three:

FINAL:

RU 10  FAU 4

The Scarlet Knights (5-7) scored in five different innings on Sunday to take game three 10-4 over the Owls.

Florida Atlantic has now lost four of their last six contests, and suffers it's first series loss on the season.

Rutger starter Rob Corsi gave way to four FAU runs in the bottom of the first and second collectively, which saw the Owls enjoying a 4-1 lead early.

But he would settle down before leaving mound after six complete, and the RU the bull pen would keep FAU's bats under check the rest of the way.

Conversely, Florida Atlantic (10-7) used seven pitchers on the afternoon, but couldn't do much to slow down the Scarlet Knights, who posted series high 17 hits.

Kyle Newton had another solid performance to lead the offense once again, going 3-of-5 with 2RBI, and Julian Loret de Mol (0-1) took the loss.

Fordham will next visit FAU Baseball Stadium for a mid week affair on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
