Post

What:      Miami (16-4) at Florida Atlantic (14-7)

When:      Wed, Mar. 21st at 6:30 PM

Where:     FAU Baseball Stadium

Audio & Stats  Here

Series:      The Hurricanes lead the all-time series 49-10 and defeated Florida Atlantic 10-5 earlier in the year in Coral Gables.

Projected Starting Pitchers:

FAU - LHP Bo Logan     1-1, 7.53 ERA, 15 K, 3 BB
UM - LHP Chris Diaz     0-0, 9.00 ERA, 1 K, 4 BB

The Owls bring a four game winning streak into Wednesday's tilt, and have won six of their last eight games.

First baseman Mark Nelson had a big weekend in FAU's league series opener over Florida International, swatting three homers to go with 11RBI. That gave him Sun Belt Player of the Week honors in rightful accord. Nelson is hitting .300 on the season with five doubles.

The squad was solid defensively, going error three for the three game stint, and outpaced the Panthers 23-9 in scoring.

Although his bat has cooled a bit as of late, senior Mike Albaladejo continues to pace FAU overall with a team best 31 hits on the year.

Florida Atlantic will face a different UM hurler this time around, which should be a good thing. Previously, LHP Steven Ewing (3-0, 1.38 ERA) held FAU for just just two runs in seven innings while striking out eight in a 10-5 loss in Coral Gables. But getting the nod on Wednesday, LHP Chris Diaz doesn't offer the same, having tossed only six innings while giving up 13 hits and six earned runs.

Senior catcher Peter O'Brien was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after posting a .529 average for the past five games, including three homeruns, three doubles, and 9RBI. He currently leads the team with a .389 hitting mark and is one of four players at .300 or better.

Miami, who is coming off a series win (2-of-3) against ACC foe Duke University this past weekend, is 4-1 on the road for the year.

The Hurricanes are ranked #12 in this week's BaseballAmerica.com and USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 coaches' polls.

Through four:

Despite giving up just two hits, the Canes take Diaz out in favor of RHP Javi Salas.

The Owls go to work quickly against him, loading the bags off three straight singles (Newton, Keller, Spano).

LF Greg Bennis drives in Florida Atlantic's first run with the fourth single of the at bat.

Morales then hits into a fielder's choice to bring in the tying run!
