              MTSU - RHP Jonathan Sisco (4-0, 1.09 ERA, 23 K, 10 BB)

Florida Atlantic played a respectable game against the #12 team in land on Wednesday, but came up short in the bottom of the ninth with a bases loaded situation, falling 8-5 to Miami before 1,418 onlookers at FAU Baseball Stadium.

Ricky Santiago (photo) had a solid night at the plate going 2-of-3 with 2RBI to pace the Owls.

Returning to conference play, the Owls are sporting a 14th national ranking in homers (21). Ironically, their road mark of 6-2 is besting an 8-6 showing in Boca Raton.

The squad is 14-0 on the year when holding a lead after seven inning and places 2nd in the Sun Belt in hitting (.298), hits (124), runs (143), home runs (22) and walks drawn (109).

The Blue Raiders are on a three game win streak after taking the latter two games of a weekend series from Western Kentucky (2-9, 7-2, 9-1) to open Sun Belt play, and following that up with a win against non conference opponent Tennessee Tech (3-1). First baseman Ethan Williams cranked three homers in the final game against the Hilltoppers, tying the program mark for most in a game.

Looking at the numbers, MTSU has outscored opponents 19-4 over the last three outings. However, they currently sit eighth in the Sun Belt with a .255 team batting average. They make up for it on the mound and defensively though, sporting two league bests with a 3.49 Team ERA, and .973 fielding percentage.

Middle Tennessee's signature win so far this season came against Tennessee 5-4 in 10 innings on the road, while it should also be noted that Belmont crushed the Blue Raiders 20-5.

The team has produced a 2-4 mark away from Murfreesboro thus far on the year.

Fans can see the teams in action live on Saturday, as the tilt will be televised on CSS and is also available on ESPN3.com.

Re: Series Thread: FAU @ Middle Tennessee - March 23-25, 2012

Game One

FINAL:

FAU 1  MTSU 5

Florida Atlantic (14-9, 3-1) managed just three hits on Friday night, falling to Middle Tennessee 5-1 in the series opener.

It was the first time scoring only once since a 15-1 loss to Florida 10 games ago.

Corey Keller drove in 3B Kyle Newton for the team’s lone run in the Owls' turn at bat in the top of the second.

Middle Tennessee would answer later in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead thanks to a two run homer from Johnny Thomas.

Owl starter Ryan Garton settled in thereafter, retiring 10 straight batters until the Blue Raiders (14-8, 3-1) connected on back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the 7th. The latter was aided by a Greg Bennis fielding error though, which resulted in another score.

FAU then went to the pen in favor of Ahmed Garcia, who effectively got out of the inning in 1-2-3 fashion, but found the MTSU bats return in their next trip to the plate as they tacked on the game’s two final runs with a pair of singles and double by Trent Miller.

Keller was 1-for-2 with one stolen base for the Owls.

Garton suffered his second loss on the year with a six inning, five hit, and two earned run performance.

The squads will hit the diamond again tomorrow for game two at 4:00 p.m. in a televised contest on CSS. The game can also be viewed on ESPN3.com.

If anyone is watching on CSS:

What is with the MTSU pitcher and this awkward "rocking motion" he has before delivering?

:D
