Florida Atlantic junior right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez has been tabbed as the 84th best overall prospect for the 2012 MLB Draft by Baseball America.
"He has worked hard to prepare himself to possibly qualify for the next level in baseball,” said Coach John McCormack. “We are proud of R.J’s past accomplishments and look forward to him having another good year in the spring.”
Alvarez recorded 72 strikeouts for the Owls over last season, while winning six contests.

"I think it's a great honor for him and for us. He's worked at it. He's put up numbers. He deserves it. He's a very, very – his upside is huge and he's a very, very good person," said FAU Head Coach John McCormack.

"Florida Atlantic University relief pitcher R.J. Alvarez has been named to the mid season watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association “Stopper of the Year” Award. He is one of 45 pitchers on the list.
Alvarez, a junior right hander from Royal Palm Beach is a perfect 7-for-7 in save opportunities, has a 3-0 record and an impressive 0.65 earned run average this season. He has recorded 36 strikeouts and only seven walks in 27.2 innings.
Last weekend (April 13-15), Alvarez tallied two saves during FAU’s road series victory at the University of Louisiana-Monroe."
