Re: 2012 FAU Volleyball Schedule
In match one, FAU (1-1) fought toe-to-toe in the first two sets, losing the first 24-26 before winning the second 28-26.
However the second pair would be mirror images, as the Owls were on the receiving end of a 15-25 final tally in both.
Kills were nearly even in the contest, with Florida Atlantic enjoying a +20 margin in attacks, but losing the overall battle while committing 16 more errors in the category.
The Hatters (1-5) took the first set in match two 25-22 before FAU’s offense would catch stride, rattling off two straight wins (25-17, 25-20).
However Stetson posted an identical set four, winning that one 25-22 as well, and setting up an all-important fifth set.
Florida Atlantic would battle hard in the finale though, coming from behind at 14-17 to win it 17-15 in the end.
Darija Sataric posted 10 kills for FAU in the victory, which snapped an 18 match losing streak.
The Owls return to action on Sunday for another two match affair against Hampton, and Central Arkansas.

However, this time around the fifth set would not be as close.
Florida Atlantic (2-3) lost set one before mounting a rally in the second frame to notch the score.
The team would edge out the third 25-23 for a 2-1 lead, but eventually fell 24-26 in the fourth as the Hatters (3-10) showed some poise and regained composure.
After a 2-0 advantage was taken by Stetson, the fifth and final set would be all FAU, as the Owls employed a blistering 64.3% attack mark to close the match on a 15-1 run.
Alessia Pizzocheri posted a contest best 18 kills for the Owls.
FAU now takes to the road for a four match swing at the Arizona State Invitational which begins Friday. Gonzaga and UC-Riverside will be first up at 12:30 and 5:30 PM respectively.

Re: 2012 FAU Volleyball Schedule
Despite losing to two matches on day one of the Arizona State Invitational on Friday, the Owls took both opponents to five sets.
In the first match against Gonzaga, Florida Atlantic (2-5) looked to be on the way to an easy win a 2-0 lead. But the Bulldogs (6-4) would claim the last the three sets, narrowly escaping with a 15-12 see-saw battle in the finale for the win.
Alessia Pizzocheri notched 15 kills to go along with 17 digs for FAU, who had a hard time containing Gonzaga's Savannah Blinn (match high 26 kills).
Another five set duel would be on tap in the night cap against UC-Riverside (4-6), with the Owls coming out on the opposite end (15-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 12-15) while overcoming a decidedly 0-1 start against the Highlanders. The three middle sets were separated by a total of just six points.
The offense was once again paced by Pizzocheri, who bested match one's tally with a 19 kill showing. Cintia Nightingale added 15 digs to lead FAU defensively.
Service errors were an issue for Florida Atlantic however, with 16 for the contest.
The Owls will take on Villanova and Arizona State Saturday in day two of tournament action. Start times remain the same at 12:30 and 5:30 PM.

Re: 2012 FAU Volleyball Schedule
The Owls (3-6) beat Villanova in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16) in their first match of the day. FAU trailed 11-10 in the fourth set before Jelena Jovanovic asserted herself. The freshman had a kill to tie the set, then served the Owls to eight more points and an 19-11 lead. The Owls rode that momentum to a 25-16 win. The victory was the Owls’ first this season in less than five sets.
FAU lost to host Arizona State (25-11, 25-13, 25-20) in its second match of the day. The Sun Devils took the first two sets by comfortable margins. In the third, the Owls were competitive throughout the set, but eventually fell to ASU.
FAU will open both their home and Sun Belt schedules against Arkansas State on Friday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Re: 2012 FAU Volleyball Schedule
FAU (3-7, 0-1) took the first stanza 25-23 in exciting fashion thanks to an Alessia Pizzocheri kill, but the next three would go the visitor's way (25-22, 29-27, 25-17).
The second set featured 16 ties before the Owls surrendered final momentum to the Red Wolves.
Still in search of their first conference win since the 2010 season, Florida Atlantic next takes on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Sunday at 1:00 PM.

Owls Roar Back Before UALR Wins in Five Sets
The Trojans also improve to 7-0 all time against the Owls (3-8, 0-2), who looked to be in driver's seat late but could not finish matters out.
FAU took the first match 26-24 before dropping the second 28-30. The Trojans won set three by another pair at 26-24, and placed the Owls on their heels.
Florida Atlantic would respond though, posting the games biggest margin of defeat thus far, downing the visitors 25-15 in set four.
However, momentum quickly swung in the other direction, as the Trojans used an 8-4 run to close out the fifth and final set in a 15-9 win.
Edina Begic, who leads the nation in kills per set, paced UALR with 28 on the afternoon.
The Owls were led by Alessia Pizzocheri's 22 kills.
