If we are gonna play FCS teams every year lets play the ones that draw the fans

I have no problem playing 1 FCS team each year, FSU, UF and Miami do it and seem to be okay…and it does count for bowls.

However it would be nice if we could pick FCS teams that mean something to FAU fans.

  1. Bethune-Cookman- One of the best bands in the country
  2. Colgate (They beat us FCS semifinals in 2003)
  3. Gardner-Webb (just kidding)
  4. Stetson (starting FCS play in 2013)
  5. FAMU once they have their band back (when you want to sell out homecoming)

Do any of them draw significant numbers of fans?  I'd rather see some AQ schools come in here like FIU gets.

If we are doing 8 SB games then 2 body bags on the road, 1 home against an AQ, and 1 against one of the mentioned teams at home.

Well FBS teams can only play 1 FCS team and have it count towards a bowl.
However theres no reason why we cant schedule one every year.

Teams with really good bands like FAMU (next year) and Bethune-cookman do increase attendance.

Plus Stetson is full of tradition.

Stetson is a historic program if you consider they sponsored football from 1894 through 1956 and played in the very first "organized" football game in the state of Florida; which was an intramural contest on Thanksgiving Day, 1894.

History of Stetson Football

The end of football at Stetson came to pass following the 1956 season. The times, as well as students at Stetson had changed. They were still interested in athletics, but not nearly as much as in years past. It was felt that football had to be given up. Most of the schools Stetson had played in the past had abandoned their football programs and the larger schools like Florida had grown large and were too strong to compete against. In Stetson’s final season of 1956 other than homecoming no more than 60 reserved seats were sold to the general public. In a January 22, 1957 meeting of trustees the football program was terminated at Stetson.

However, the departure from the sport was broken on August 7th, 2012.

Will be interesting to see how they do, especially since FIT is now embarking in the same competitive arena from a recruiting standpoint.

FIT is division II, Stetson will be FCS in 2013.

FAU will be able to play stetson. We cant play FIT.

Whats funny is some of Stetson opponents back in the 1940s and 1950s. Western Kentucky, Troy, Arkansas State.

Someone asked what tradition . In 1927 they beat Auburn, In 1928 they beat UM,  In 1938 they beat UF. In 1947 they beat Florida State.
Also they are 5-0 against Troy.

Really, we can't play a DII school?? Thought you could have one non FBS on the schedule per year?
