Northern Arizona was outdone in shots and corner kicks on Friday night, but came up on the winning end of matters with a 2-0 defeat of Florida Atlantic, who falls to 1-3 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, the Lumberjacks (1-3) connected for scores in the second at both the 61st and 88th minutes.

Claire Emslie was once again the leading offensive threat with three shots for the contest and Taylor Sorrels, Brittney Nash, and Haleigh Stremanos each added a pair.

Florida Atlantic faced their second double overtime session of the year on Sunday before eventually falling 2-1 to UNLV.

Taylor Sorrels gave the Owls (1-4) an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute until the home team notched the score later in the period.

Matters remained deadlocked through the end of regulation, and an extra period, until a 101st minute score by the Rebels (3-2-1) produced the deciding goal for the home team.

Marisa Russo and  Claire Emslie had two shots each, and goalkeeper Ashley Lantes produced four saves in the loss.

"I am proud of the players’ effort", said Coach Brian Dooley. "I believe good things are going to come for this team in the future."

The squad concludes a five game stretch away from Boca Raton next weekend with a match against Stetson on Saturday at 2:00 PM in DeLand.

The balance of the 2012 slate will see a 6-to-5 advantage on the home pitch.

Emslie Leads FAU Past UAB in Women's Soccer

2012 FAU Women's Soccer Schedule

Freshman Claire Emslie netted a hat trick on Sunday afternoon to lead the Owls past the University of Alabama 4-3 at Birmingham at FAU Soccer Stadium. Emslie is the first player to register the famed scoring mark in seven seasons.

"Claire has always been around the goal this season," said Brian Dooley, FAU’s women’s soccer coach. "Today, she was able to finish on some of her scoring chances. Sometimes the penalty kick releases some pressure knowing that you got a goal. She has been working hard and today’s performance is certainly well deserved."

FAU lead 3-0 until the Blazers (1-7) employed an offensive flurry in the second period to draw even. But Emslie's third score proved the difference maker; the second time she has done so in 2012.

"I’m glad that we were able to pull out the victory," said Emslie. "Everybody worked hard all week in practice preparing for this match. It is good to come out with the positive result."

The Owls (2-5) snapped a three game skid with the win, and set new season highs for goals (4), and shots (20).

FAU opens SBC play on Friday, September 21, at Troy.

FAU Knocks Off Troy 2-0 to Start SBC Play

Sun Belt play got off to a good start for Florida Atlantic (3-5, 1-0) on Friday, as they notched a 2-0 road win over Troy.

Claire Emslie picked up her fifth goal on the year in the win, and Natalia Hernandez accounted for the other score - both of which occurred in the second half.

The Trojans (5-5-1, 0-1) were the narrow aggressor offensively, with a 13-12 advantage in shots. But Florida Atlantic held attempts on target 7-6 while making the most of theirs.

"The girls gave great effort today to win a road conference game," said Coach Brian Dooley. "It is always good to start off conference play with a victory. Being that it was a road win makes the result even more important."

Goalkeeper Ashley Lantes was solid in the net with six saves.

The two game trip through Alabama continues for the Owls, with the next stop at South Alabama for a Sunday match beginning at 2:00 PM.

Owls See Third 2OT Affair of 2012; Lose 3-2 to MTSU

Thanks to a heroic comeback effort, the Owls (3-8, 1-3) notched their third double overtime match of the season against Middle Tennessee on Sunday, before falling 3-2 at FAU Soccer Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (9-3, 4-0) came out the aggressor, netting a pair of scores less than two minutes apart just before the 10th minute mark had passed.

Florida Atlantic would withstand a 27 shot entourage from MTSU  on the afternoon, and was shut out until the 72nd minute when Claire Emslie pushed her sixth goal on the year through the net.

Emslie waited just over 10 minutes to place number seven past Blue Raider keeper Kelsey Brouwer; effectively extending the match beyond regulation as the Owls looked to pull off the upset.

But MTSU kept the pressure on, eventually taking the contest in the 106th minute during the second overtime period off a shot by Paige Goeglein.

The Owls managed nine shots overall, with an efficient five of those on target. Emslie accounted for five of the attempts.

The squad returns to action against North Texas this Friday at 8:00 PM in Denton.
