Reggie Brown and USF commit Robert Garcia on hand for FIU game

Last week I wrote about a trio of prospects from Chamberlin High School, this week it's a potential duo from Jesuit (Tampa) high school that should have Owls fans talking.

Cornerback Reggie Brown (pictured) has been committed to FAU since August, but a teammate of his might be joining him at the next level.

Robert Garcia traveled to Boca Raton last weekend to watch the Owls play FIU.

The 6-foot-4 252 pound defensive end has been committed to USF for months, but the verbal agreement didn't stop him from looking around.

"Yes I was," Garcia confirmed in a message that he visited.

The lineman made the journey across the state with Brown and his teammates' family.

"We had a great time. Robbie did come with us and has an offer from the Owls. He had a good time. Can't say for sure what his interest in the Owls is at this time. All I can say is, keep plugging and tugging," Brown's father, Reginald Brown said.

While Garcia hasn't made the flip the yet, his high school has a short history marked with FAU.

Last year defensive tackle Isaac Edwards signed with the Owls late in the process over Western Kentucky.

This season, Brown committed to FAU over additional offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Bowling Green, Ball State, Temple, Toldeo, Marshall, Middle Tennesee State and Western Michigan.

Jesuit has been a hotbed for prospects over the past five years with seven players having signed with Division-1 schools and a few others choosing to walk-on. This year five individuals have are already committed to FCS programs including Brown and Garcia.

Brown has been on the varsity squad for four years, having started the last three at cornerback.

He has been referred to coaches and teammates as a "lockdown" corner and has had to often cover Miami commitment Travis Johnson everyday in practice.

The athlete spent a majority of his junior year playing wide receiver on offense, but this past season he was featured at running back and ran for 323 yards and 5 touchdowns.

His highlight tape can be viewed here.

-2014 Father Lopez (Daytona Beach) quarterback Joseph Boden is one to keep your eye on. The dual-threat passer had a productive junior season throwing for 1,113 yards and 6 touchdowns while rushing for another 900 yards and 16 scores on the ground. Boden visited for the FIU game last week and expects to be at the next home game. Arizona and Cincinnati have also shown interest.

- Columbus (Miami) kicker/punter Matt Freixa was another unofficial visitor last Friday. The specialist said he enjoyed the game, but has yet to be offered by FAU. According to Freixa, coaches Kerry Dixon and Brett Diersen have stopped by his school on numerous occasions this season. The kicker is 5-of-8 this year on field goal attempts.

-FAU's involvement with JUCO signal callers will continue this weekend, as they are set to host Dean College (Ma.) quarterback Trevor Vasey. According to Brad Hoiseth's Twitter, the passer will be on campus this Saturday to check things out. Vasey hasn't been offered by the Owls but looks to be an option if other targets dont pan out. His highlight tape can be seen here.

I'm still holding out hope for MGIII next year…but if he can't go I hope we can land a quality JUCO QB.

I also wanted to point out that the USF situation could become interesting after the season. A lot of have people have said head coachSkip Holtz is on the hot seat with a 3-7 record.

Would we have a better chance at the upset next year if he stays or goes, I wonder?

He's been doing pretty poorly, but these are his guys in his system, right… vs a new guy who might be better but has to work with Holtz' guys.

Vasey didn't visit FAU this weekend, due to a trip to Elon.

Offensive Coordinator Brian Wright flew up to Dean J.C. (Franklin, Ma) today to visit and meet with him instead.

You have to think that a trip to the prospect results in an offer…….

Unless they had multiple guys to check out and it was just part of the "route".

Any QB prospect you're particularly pulling for, Andrew?

And with Holtz getting fired, there should be some backlash on the recruiting trail.

Keep your eye on the Cincinnati job too. If Butch Jones also leaves for Purdue and takes his staff with him, there could be some benefits for FAU.
