The Series

This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. Indiana has been playing basketball since 1900, while FAU launched it's program in 1988.

The Owls are 0-4 all-time against teams from the Big Ten Conference.

Owls at a Glance

FAU dropped their second straight game Tuesday night falling 69-68 to Stetson on a last second buzzer beating shot.

The Owls had been in control for a majority of the contest and led by as much as 12 points in the first half, but depth was a factor as freshmen guards Stefan Moody and Cavon Baker where withheld from the contest due to a suspension for violating team rules.

Greg Gantt had given the home team a one- point lead when he hit a three-pointer with :07 seconds left in regulation, but enough time remained in the contest for Stetson to drive the length of the court for the final possession. Aaron Graham’s jump shot fell short, and Chris Perez was there to grab the rebound and lay it in as time expired.

“We paid a price tonight. We paid a big price because you only get 30 chances over the course of the season to win a game, and we gave one away. That’s a win we should have had,” Jarvis said.

The loss moved the Owls to 5-6 on the season, but was martyred by the absence of Moody - who is the team's second leading scorer.

“Forget about the fact that we didn’t have all of our players – which was part of the problem – we should have beat this team at home, but we didn’t because we didn’t execute,” Jarvis said.

With Moody serving the first of his three game suspension Tuesday night, reserve walk-on guard Richard Morrow saw extended action.

The junior had played a total of two minutes all season long, but found himself on the court for a career-high 17 minutes against the Hatters.

He fared well for the most part of the contest scoring six points, but had a costly turnover in the game's final minutes.

“Rich went in and played some really good defense. I don’t know if he scored three baskets all year long in practice, but he got three baskets in the game and he did well. If everybody had played within themselves like Rich did, we probably would have won by 15 or 20,” Jarvis said.

Friday, Morrow is slated to continue in the same role as Moody and Baker will still be handcuffed to the bench.

Forward Andre Mattison matched a career-high 10 points in the loss to the Hatters, and had his best offensive production of the season. Pablo Bertone chipped in 12 points of his own and as a team eight different Owls scored a bucket.

While the balanced scoring looks good on paper, Jarvis felt that some of the guys were trying to do too much on their own.

“That’s our problem, were too selfish,” Jarvis said. “It doesn’t make a difference about how many guys score, it’s about scoring out of what you work on every day.”

Friday night the team will need to play an unselfish type of basketball if they hope to have any chance in a hostile environment.

"It depends how we play, we have to go play. I didn’t feel that we competed at any level we needed to last week against Dayton, and Indiana is a whole lot better than them," Jarvis said. “We need to be ready to go play in that kind of environment and get it everything we have, or it’s going to be a long, long night.”

Hoosiers at a Glance

http://www.iuhoosiers.com/sports/m-baskbl/recaps/121912aaa.html on Wednesday night giving the program its 15th straight win at home, and eight this year.

Cody Zeller had 16 points while Christian Wattford had 15 of his own, as the team moved to an impressive 10-1 on the season.

The dominating win comes days after the squad dropped their first game of the year. The Hoosiers had held the coveted #1 ranking in the nation after reaching the Sweet 16 in last season, but stumbled against in-state foe Butler on a neutral court losing 88-86 in overtime.

"I was really proud of our team in the way that they responded. When you come off a tough loss it creates a different level of urgency in your team,” Indiana head coach Tom Crean said.

While the loss may have brought some reality to one of the top teams in college basketball, the Hoosiers can be compared to a well maintained sports car.

They lead the country in scoring by averaging a whopping 89.2 points per game, and as a team rank third nationally with a slick 52.5% field goal percentage.

Zeller was named to many preseason honors at the beginning of the year, and has lived up to the expectations, scoring a team high 15.7 points a contest. Not only can the sophomore forward put points up on the board, but he can also rebound. He already owns two double-doubles this season to his name, and had a career-high 19 boards against Central Connecticut State last week.

With Zeller dominating the lane, it’s been point guard Kevin “Yogi” Ferrell that that has been handed the keys to the offense.

The freshman has experienced his growing pains much like any young player, but against Mount St. Mary’s he posted a career-high nine assists.

The Hoosiers will look to allow Ferrell to run the offense and find Zeller down low.

Guard Maurice Creek isn’t expected to play against the Owls, as he is out indefinitely with a foot injury that he suffered in practice. The absence of Creek shouldn’t be the issue, as Indiana isn’t afraid to reach across the bench and use a dozen or more players.

Indiana has won eight games this season by 20 points or more and holds a 37.6 average scoring margin against opponents at home.

Latest Line

Indiana – 33

Owl's Nest Prediction

FAU experienced life without one of their most talented players against Stetson, and saw the results that can stem from it.
Tuesday night the squad struggled to find an offensive identity in the second half and where plagued by turnovers down the stretch.

If the Owls want to have any chance against #6 Indiana, Gantt would have to have a career game and the team would have to shoot lights out on national TV.

Both of those tasks are going to be difficult, especially with the Hoosiers zeroing in on Gantt and not having to worry about Moody.

Zeller provides a huge mismatch for the Owls’ defenders, and anchor a high-octane offense that thrives at the often loud Assembly Hall.

This one could get ugly, and fairly early.

“What we’re trying to do is lay the groundwork for a winning, successful basketball program,” Jarvis said. “Conference USA is going to be a step up, so we’re going to have to get a lot better. We’re going to have to get better players and get better with the players we have. “

No bueno on ESPN3. The @ssholes at ESPN blacked out the game on the eastern half of the country. If someone finds a live internet video feed elsewhere, please share.
