Owls Heavy on Linemen in Final Recruiting Weekend

It’s no secret that FAU was thin along the defensive front last season, and with just three defensive linemen secured so far in the 2013 recruiting class, the Owls will host a group of prospects this weekend that could provide much needed depth along the line.

Headlined by consensus four-star and U.S. Army All-American DT Keith Bryant, FAU will have arguably the most talented prospect they have ever had on campus for an official visit.

According to Matt Porter at the Palm Beach Post, Bryant was visited Thursday afternoon at Atlantic High School by a strong contingent of FAU personal that included head coach Carl Pelini.

With already 25 verbal commitments to the Owl’s 2013 signing class, spots are limited in the final days before National Signing Day on February 6th - but the addition of Bryant would be monumental.

Joining the defensive tackle will be his high school teammate and good friend DE Todney Evans. Evans had previously committed to Western Michigan over the summer, but decided a few months ago to reevaluate his options and open up his recruitment.

While programs such as FSU, Miami and South Carolina are after Bryant’s services, Evans has recently been hearing from Middle Tennessee State and Arkansas State.

FAU is one of the only schools actively recruiting both players, meaning if the duo wants to play together at the next level, the Owls could be a strong option.

DT - Keith Bryant Atlantic - Instead of visiting a major BCS program this weekend, Bryant elected to take his final visit of the recruiting process to FAU. While it isn't clear how serious he is in the Owls, he will be on campus meeting with the coaches and touring the facilities. Highlights.

DE - Winston Chastang West Orange - A former Navy commit, Chastang is being hosted this weekend by FAU punter and former teammate Sean Kelly. The lineman is a high motor player who also holds an offer from Memphis. Highlights.

DE- Todney Evans Atlantic - Evans is a speedy-rusher who played alongside Bryant at Atlantic. He has previously visited Middle Tennessee State and Western Michigan. Highlights.

DT - Jermey Faulk Palatka - Having flown under the radar until now, Faulk is another big body that will be in Boca Raton. He holds offers from FIU and a few FCS schools. Highlights.

RB - Rashaad Lee Pine Forest - Lee is committed to FAU and will grayshirt this upcoming fall, meaning he will not join the team until the spring of 2014. He currently is rehabbing a knee injury from his senior season, but is expected to sign with the Owls on National Signing Day.

LB - Robert Relf St. Brophy Prep (Az.) - A current FAU commit, Relf will be making the trip across the country for his official visit. He had previously scheduled a visit, but missed the date due to SAT testing. Highlights.

Note: The above listing was based on the information provided when it was composed. Changes may result according to prospect's schedules.

Re: Final Push: FAU Official Visitors 2/2

Thanks Andrew.

Man I cant help but wonder about Bryant. I wont be dissapointed if he says no, but it seems like FAU is pulling out all the stops.

Wonder if the best friend angle on top of being close to his family would be enough top push him over.

No matter what will still be great to see that FAU hat pn ESPN for his signing day.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

I don't know, we might have a better chance than we think.

I personally could not imaging being away from my daughter, that would HAVE to be first priority I would think.

Yeah you want a better life for you and her by going pro, but if you are good, you are good, doesn't matter where you play really.

Doesn't matter if you go to Alcorn State (Steve McNair), Mississippi Valley State (Jerry Rice), University of Tennessee Chatanooga (Terrell Owens), etc…if you can play you can play.

You should pick the program and University that feels like you will fit in best with, if you're talented you will be in the league on Sundays.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

Re: Final Push: FAU Official Visitors 2/2

Add American Heritage K Greg Joseph to the list as an unofficial visitor.

Joseph was named to the MaxPreps All-American Football Team after connecting on 10-of-12 field goal attempts this past season and is currently committed to Southeast Missouri State.

Jeff Greer was the first to report of the visit, but since then Joseph has confirmed that FAU has offered him a preferred walk-on position.

With the ability to convert on long field goals, Joseph also doubles as a deep threat on kickoffs. Last season he booted 89% of his kickoffs into the endzone for a touchback.

Joseph holds an offer from Western Kentucky and was receiving interest from Ohio State, Vanderbilt, Iowa State and FIU. He has recently been in contact with FAU assistant coach Jared Allen.

What is our kicking situation? Did we lose our Punter or FG Kicker? I thought our punter really started to come on strong and improve a lot after that Wagner game

Punter Sean Kelly - who is a walk-on - was awarded a scholarship at the end of the season and will be a sophomore come fall. Placekicker Mitch Anderson will be a redshirt-senior. Marcelo Bonani left the team last season. So, Joseph could come in and redshirt or serve as the kickoff specialist until Anderson graduates.

redshirt the kid, so he can build up his leg strength, and work with the coaches.

West Orange DE Winston Chastang says official visit was "great" and he really enjoyed walking around the stadium. He plans on making a decision within the next two days.
