2013 FAU Softball Schedule & Results

The FAU softball team (0-1) began the 2013 season with a 1-7 loss to Samford University of the Southern Conference on Friday night.

The contest was a slow go offensively through the first five and a half innings, with the teams combining for just four hits collectively.

But the Bulldogs would change that during their trip to the plate in the bottom of the 6th, pounding out all of their runs off just five hits.

Florida Atlantic answered with a single score during its final at bat courtesy of an Alexa Ballard RBI double.

There were no errors committed by either team.

Taylor Fawbush (0-1) took the loss for the Owls, who will next take on Marshall and Michigan tomorrow at 9:00 and 11:00 am respectively.

Not to be mean right off but I sure hope Taylor is NOT our No. 1! You can't give up 7 runs to  a lowee level team like Samford in fast-pitch, you just can't! And by the way, 1 run on O won't cut it either! Bad start to the year ladies, step it up!

Re: 2013 FAU Softball Schedule

The Owls dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling to Marshall 1-3 before being upended 10-2 by #15 Michigan.

Paige Pender (0-1) threw the first game games for FAU, surrendering two unearned runs in the first inning. The Owls later plated a run in the fifth inning before the Thundering Herd rounded out the scoring.

Taylor Fawbush (0-2) threw three scoreless innings in game two only to see the Wolverines explode for an 11 hit fourth inning en route to all of their runs. FAU scored a pair of runs in the final turn of the shortened contest.  First baseman Laura Mann drove in the FAU’s first run and Kathryn Spack later scored FAU’s final run of the game.

Florida Atlantic (0-3) will wrap up action in the USF Tournament  tomorrow with a pair of contests against Marshall, and the host Bulls.

Start times are 11:15 am and 1:30 pm.

Re: 2013 FAU Softball Schedule

The softball team split again on Sunday at the USF Tournament, dropping their second contest to Marshall 1-2 in the day's first game before knocking off #10 USF 2-1 in the second.

Unlike the weekend's previous games, pitching caught stride.

The Thundering Herd struck in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 1-0 lead in game one, but the Owls would answer later in 5th with three bunts and a Taylor Fawbush ground out (RBI) that pushed the team's lone run across the plate.

Marshall (2-3) used fly balls to the outfield to score the deciding run in the bottom of the 8th.

Samantha Messer threw 7 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and striking out eight, while Fawbush (0-3) took the loss tossing the final third inning.

Messer got the nod again in game two, holding the Bulls to six hits as well.

Ahead 1-0, the Owls offense got a boost by way of an Alexia Ballard homer in the top of the 7th to secure the deciding run.

South Florida (3-1) attempted to rally, scoring behind back-to-back hits to lead off their final at bat, but Messer struck out the the next batter she faced and enticed two consecutive fly balls to close it out for FAU.

Christina Martinez went 2-of-3 at the plate for Florida Atlantic, tallying half of their hits (4).

The Owls will return home for an extended slate of 24 straight games in Boca Raton that will keep them their through March 12th.

The team will next face Maryland on Friday, February 15th at 4:00 PM in the first game of the FAU Kick-Off Classic.
