Cathedral senior guard Mo Evans has helped his stock this week playing with the Eric Gordon All-Stars 17-and-under team. The 6-1 Evans scored 20 points in an 85-73 win over the Atlanta Celtics on Thursday night. Schools now showing interest this week include Florida Atlantic, IPFW, Middle Tennessee State, Morehead State and Northeastern:

Re: FAU Men's Basketball Class of 2013 Recruiting

The Owls picked up LOI's today in the early signing period from C Grant Pelchen and G Chris Jenkins for the 2013 class!

By my count they still have a spot to offer…but would not count on that happening, as Jarvis likes to keep one tucked away for "rainy days".

Here's FAU's release:

The Florida Atlantic men’s basketball program and head coach Mike Jarvis have signed Chris Jenkins (Gladstone, NJ-Gil St. Bernard’s High School) and Grant Pelchen (Jupiter-Jupiter High School) to National Letters of Intent. The duo will attend FAU and play for the Owls in 2013-14.

Chris Jenkins in a 6-foot-4 inch shooting guard who averaged 17 points a game as a junior at Morristown-Beard High School before transferring to St. Bernard’s for his senior year. Jenkins will be expected to help fill the void created by the graduation of Greg Gantt at the end of this season.

“Chris is a great shooter, and you can never have enough shooters.  He will play right away and play a lot. Exactly how much he plays, will probably depend on how well he plays defense,” said FAU head coach Mike Jarvis. “With the inside game we will have, there will be plenty of open shots to be had and Chris will have an opportunity to capitalize on those.”

Grant Pelchen is a 6-foot-10 center who averaged 8.3 points and 7.1 rebounds last season for the Warriors. Pelchen is also a stout defensive presence, blocking 3.7 shots a game as a junior. He helped Jupiter to an appearance in the 8A Regional Quarterfinals and will be the first Palm Beach County product to play FAU since Xavier Perkins. Pelchen will add to what promises to be a strong interior game next season, with Dragan Sekelja and Justin Raffington already in the fold.

“Grant is a sleeper, some people might call him a project, but he’s a good passer and he can shoot. The doctors told us that he might grow a little bit more, so he could be a seven-footer before it’s all said and done,” said Jarvis. “We will not only have three big guys next season, but three very good  big guys, which  is a luxury very few teams around the country have.”

“They are both excellent students, who we expect to succeed both on and off the court.”

You know, as much as we go on and on about good teams, we need to remember that very, very few players will ever play beyond this level.  The kids need to take advantage of the "school" part of their deal with FAU.

Off topic for the future, Jarvis said that he will likely use the final remaining scholarship position for the 2013 class to bring in a natural point - similar to that of Ray Taylor, who transferred to FIU when things did not bode well in professional interest after leaving Florida Atlantic.

And so it begins…and there is even another "Taylor" involved.

According to Steven Barnhart @HWHoopsCentral, FAU has offered class of 2014 PG B.J. Taylor of Boone High in Orlando.

Taylor dropped 24 points, and had seven assists in a 50-33 win over Oak Ridge on Wednesday night.

6-1 PG D’Andre Johnson of Cass Tech visited FAU this weekend.

Jarvis travelled to see him play in Detroit a couple days before the Owls game at North Texas earlier this month.

He's only had one player commit to him and not uphold that nod during his entire time as a coach.

So, should Johnson pull the trigger, expect it to be firm.

You gotta imagine Boca is a more attractive spot than Lehigh or St. Bonaventure!

Hard to tell much from the video other than he's got a quick first step and he looks like he can handle the ball, which is obviously needed with this team.

I wonder if he realizes almost all those schools he hashtagged for C-USA won't be there next year, lol.

Anyways, glad to see us get a solid PG.
