Final: FAU 10 UCF 2

Florida Atlantic was able to take advantage of an offensive flare Tuesday night, as they beat Central Florida 10-2 on the road.

The Owls (25-12, 10-5) exposed the Knight’s (20-18, 6-6) pitching staff and pounded out 15 hits over the course of the game.

Mitch Morales and Tyler Rocklein each drove in two runs, as Brendon Sanger crossed the plate a game-high four times.

Freshman pitcher Kyle Miller (3-0) continued the strong start to his rookie campaign, tossing four solid innings to secure the victory. The right hander gave up the first two runs of his career, but was able to strikeout three seperate batters.

FAU constructed a 3-0 lead in the opening frame of the game, when Rocklein doubled to left field to score Sanger and Geoff Jimenez. UCF would storm back into the contest with a run in both the third and fourth innings, but Miller would be replaced in favor of reliever Bo Logan.

The Owls would add a trio of runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead, before Logan would retire the Knights in order. The visitors scored three more runs in the sixth courtesy of an RBI single from Mike Spano and a throwing error by the Knights.

Logan pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh innings, as FAU would add an additional insurance run in the seventh. Alex Koji and Andrew Archer combined to close out the game, while Logan exited the mound with three shutout innings of relief.

Brian Adkins (1-6) was handed the loss for UCF, as the starter lasted just a third of an inning.

Five different Owls recorded multi-hit games, and were led by Morales (pictured above) who went 2-for-4 with a walk. The squad was keen in timely situations, as they scored four runs with two-outs on the board.

The win gives FAU their first victory over the Knights in three years, and comes at a crucial moment in the season. The club has now won four of their last five games and improved to 8-2 in the midweek slate.

FAU will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend for a three-game series schedule to start on Friday.
