UL - RHP Austin Robichaux (5-2, 2.45 ERA)
Sat: FAU - RHP Jeremy Strawn (2-2, 3.55 ERA)

Florida Atlantic travels to Louisiana-Lafayette this weekend in a three-way tie for first place in the Sun Belt Conference. The Owls will look to separate themselves in league play starting Friday night against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Louisiana enter the series, two games behind the Owls in the conference standings, but have managed to win their last two weekend series against Arkansas-Little Rock and Troy.
FAU has recorded double-digit hits in back-to-back games, and the lineup should find the same production against a Ragin’ Cajun’s pitching staff that has faltered on the mound this season.
Louisiana ranks near the bottom of the conference in most pitching categories, despite having three solid starters. Friday night regular Austin Robichaux was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after his complete game performance last Friday, but behind him the bullpen has had it’s issues.
The Ragin’ Cajun’s having given up 26 home runs on the year and a conference worse 14 triples.
Owl’s head coach John McCormack will stick with his same weekend rotation, to counter Louisiana. Southpaw Austin Gomber, who was handed just his second loss of the year last week, will get the ball on Friday night to face Robichaux – in what should be on the conference’s top pitching duels of the season.
Gomber sports a 2.28 ERA while the freshman Robichaux claim’s a 2.45 ERA of his own. Both pitchers have an ERA that ranks inside the top three of the Sun Belt Conference.
Jermey Strawn will get the nod for FAU on Saturday, while freshman Brandon Rhodes will make his second straight weekend start to close out the series.
Rhodes has a 2.79 ERA of his own and appears to have taken the place of Jake Meiers in the rotation. The freshman has yet to allow a home run in 38.2 innings of work – which ranks top in the league.
Offensively, the Ragin’ Cajuns are led by Tyler Girouard, who is hitting and impressive .394 on the year. The sophomore is tied for the team-best seven home runs on the season and has drove in 32 runs. Outfielder Dex Kjerstad is hitting above .300 as well, and leads the squad in runs scored.
Owl’s first basemen Mark Nelson is still recovering from a hamstring injury, but is expected to play in the series. On Tuesday against UCF, Mike Spano started first before Sean Murrell took over in the later innings of the game. If Nelson has any difficulty over the weekend with his hamstring, look for either Spano or Murrell to be on the bag.
Freshman Brendon Sanger leads the team with a .365 batting average and is second on the team with 25 runs scored. The designated hitter crossed the plate three times against UCF and continues to produce timely scores when the Owls need it.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are 18-4 at home this season, but have dropped two straight. FAU is 8-4 on the road this season.
